About the Role
Parachute Health is hiring a Staff Engineer to join our Eligibility & Benefits team. We build the systems that ensures every durable medical equipment (DME) order has verified coverage before it ships. In this role, you’ll tackle real-time payer eligibility checks and architect solutions to parse messy, inconsistent insurance data, directly cutting claim denials and eliminating manual overhead for DME providers.
Responsibilities
- Develop in an agile environment, including TDD and flexible pair programming.
- Work every day with Product and Design to scope features, weigh tradeoffs, and turn workflows into software that’s simple to use and holds up in production.
- Direct key technical decisions related to application and data model design.
- Maintain stable and performant application stacks.
- Ship quality code that moves the business. Deliver readable, well-tested, maintainable code tied to clear outcomes for clinicians, suppliers, and patients.
- Understanding of data structures, TDD, and software engineering design patterns and principles.
- Ability to lead a team in making technical decisions.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, ensuring timely resolution of critical system issues, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our system reliability and availability.
- Use AI developer tools to work smarter. Adopt and help evaluate AI coding assistants and automation that speed up delivery, catch defects earlier, and cut repetitive work.
- Own integrations with payers and clearinghouses, including retries, failure modes, and keeping data current.
- Design how payer and plan data gets mapped, measure how accurate it is against what suppliers actually bill, and get it better.
- Partner with Product, Ops, and supplier stakeholders, and write the technical narrative that gets the org aligned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a production environment with Ruby on Rails or other open source languages (e.g., Python, Golang, JavaScript)
- Staff-level engineering experience, including technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring engineers
- Revenue cycle experience in at least one of: eligibility and benefits, claims, billing, or prior authorization
- Must reside in the U.S.
Nice to Have
- Familiar with AWS services (EC2, ECS, S3, RDS, etc).
- Exposure to X12 EDI: 270/271, 837/835, 278
- Clearinghouses or revenue cycle vendors: Availity, Change Healthcare/Optum, Waystar, Stedi, Experian Health
Benefits

- Employer HSA Contribution: Company-funded contributions to your Health Savings Account.
- 401(k) Retirement Plan
- Equity Incentive Plan
- Annual Company-Wide Bonus: Opportunity for up to 15% bonus based on company performance.

- Annual Learning and Development Stipend
