About the role
About you:
Nutrafol's in-house Creative team makes everything from brand campaigns and product photography to performance ads, social content, and retail assets. As our Director of Production, you'll own how all of that work from a photography, casting and film standpoint gets made: the budgets, expenses. the schedules, the partners, and the shoot days.
This is a senior individual contributor role to start. You won't have direct reports at first. Instead, you'll lead through a network of production companies, agencies, photographers, directors, and freelancers, and through close partnership with our in-house creatives. You'll build the production function from the ground up, set the standards, and help shape how the team grows.
What You'll Do:
Own production end to end
- Lead production for all photo, video, and content shoots across brand, performance marketing, social, e-commerce, and retail.
- Take projects from brief to delivery: scoping, bidding, pre-production, on-set leadership, post-production, and final asset handoff.
- Act as producer on key shoots, and make sure every other shoot has the right producer.
Manage budgets and partners
- Build and manage the annual production budget, plus a budget for each project. Track actuals and report on spend to the SVP, Creative.
- Find, vet, and manage a roster of production companies, agencies, directors, photographers, editors, post houses, and freelance crew.
- Run bids, negotiate rates and contracts, and get the most value out of every dollar without lowering the quality of the work.
- Work with Legal and Procurement on SOWs, vendor agreements, and payments.
Build the operating model
- Design and run the production calendar across all creative work, balancing what the business needs with the team's capacity.
- Create repeatable workflows, templates, and best practices: production books, call sheets, approval steps, and delivery specs.
- Find ways to make more content more efficiently, such as shoots that serve several channels at once, modular content systems, and in-house studio capabilities.
- Look at and adopt new tools, including AI-assisted production and post-production workflows, where they make the work better or faster.
Protect the brand and the business
- Manage talent, model, and influencer usage rights, releases, and renewals. Keep a clear record of where and how long each asset can run.
- Make sure productions follow union rules (SAG-AFTRA and others where they apply), location permits, insurance, and on-set safety.
- Partner with Legal and Regulatory early in the process so that claims, testimonials, and before-and-after content meet our standards for a health and wellness brand.
- Oversee how finished assets are organized, labeled, and stored in our DAM so the whole company can find and use them.
Partner across the company
- Work closely with Creative Directors, Art Directors, Designers, Copywriters, and Brand teams so the work looks the way it was meant to.
- Partner with Growth, Social, E-commerce, Retail, and Product Marketing to understand what assets they need and when.
- Bring production feasibility, cost, and timing into the conversation early, during concept development.
What You Bring:
- 10+ years of production experience, with at least 3 years at a senior producer, head of production, or director level.
- Experience at an in-house brand team, a creative agency, or a production company. Ideally a mix.
- A track record of producing large-scale photo and video campaigns as well as high-volume content for performance and social channels.
- Strong budget management skills, with experience owning a multimillion-dollar annual production budget.
- A deep network of production partners, crew, and talent, and the judgment to match the right partner to each project.
- Working knowledge of talent contracts, usage rights, union rules, and production insurance.
- Experience setting up production processes and systems where none existed.
- Clear, calm communication with creatives, executives, and vendors, especially when plans change on set.
- Comfort leading through influence. You get things done without direct reports.
Nice to have:
- Experience in beauty, wellness, CPG, or another regulated category where claims and before-and-after imagery need legal review.
- Experience building or running an in-house studio.
- Familiarity with project management and DAM tools (e.g., Airtable, Asana, Monday, Bynder, Frame.io).
- Experience growing a production team over time.
