Job Overview:

The Vice President of Philanthropy & Outreach is tasked with creating, managing, and successfully executing a fundraising and marketing plan with a revenue target of $10 million annually. Their main responsibilities include devising and implementing strategies to enhance brand awareness, attracting new donors while cultivating strong and lasting relationships with current donors, and optimizing the donor experience and relationship in a cost-effective manner. They oversee Galápagos Conservancy's fundraising team (currently two US-based staff) and communications / marketing team (currently six Ecuador-based staff). They also serve as a member of the organization’s Leadership Team, ensuring that development strategies align with the organization's growth objectives and its strategic plan in ways that contribute to its short and long-term financial stability. The position reports to Galápagos Conservancy's President. Position is remote in United States, preferred proximity to our Washington, D.C. office or other major fundraising market: New York City or San Francisco

Duties & Responsibilities:

Philanthropy -

  • Oversee and be responsible for all of Galápagos Conservancy’s fundraising activities (Major Donors, Membership, Foundations, and Corporate)
  • Meet or exceed the organization’s revenue targets each year
  • Analyze and assess Galápagos Conservancy’s fundraising on an ongoing basis and suggest improvements
  • Serve as staff liaison to the organization’s Board’s Philanthropy Committee, and plan and implement capital campaign(s)
  • Plan and oversee fundraising events
  • Build a culture of philanthropy throughout Galápagos Conservancy

Outreach -

  • Oversee and be responsible for Galápagos Conservancy’s branding and marketing efforts
  • Develop and implement annual communications plan
  • Coordinate communications campaigns across media; establish and maintain strong media relationships
  • Be responsible for organization’s crisis communications and reputation management

Team Management and Other -

  • Develop and implement growth strategy for the organization’s outreach and philanthropy team
  • Develop annual work plans and budget while working within Board-approved budget
  • Provide timely reporting to Board and other stakeholders on team performance
  • Improve team efficiency within a healthy work-life balance framework for staff

Requirements

  • A Bachelors degree, Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years experience as a successful senior fundraising leader in non-profit(s) with demonstrated achievement in foundation grant writing, planned giving programs, major donor cultivation, and capital campaign development and execution
  • 3+ years experience in a supervisory fundraising role, including managing remote team members
  • 3+ years experience developing fundraising communications
  • Familiarity with operations of membership-based non-profits
  • Proficient in non-profit customer relationship management systems (we currently use EveryAction)
  • CFRE certification preferred
  • Background and interest in fundraising and outreach in support of environmental and wildlife conservation
  • Spanish language skills (90% of our staff speak Spanish) and experience working in Latin America a plus, but not required
