The Role
We are seeking a Technical Lead to lead development for a new, early-stage LLM-powered product that serves employees at Fortune 500 enterprises. As a Technical Lead you will actively build and oversee development of this product, own the technical architecture and roadmap, and manage a small, nimble, product-focused team that is bringing a new product to market. You will report directly to the CEO, who is the product visionary for this new product.
 
Why This Role Matters
This role will be integral to our ability to execute smart and swift approaches to building out our early-stage LLM-powered product. We expect that if successful, this product will change the scalability and accessibility of high quality leadership coaching for some of the world’s biggest enterprises
 
What You'll Do
●Work with the product team to understand and prioritize evolving requirements.
●Own the technical roadmap, including architecture and development infrastructure.
●Ensure the product is scalable and maintainable.
●Manage and break down large product and technical efforts.
●Hire, onboard, and manage the work of a small, 3-5 person team of engineers.
●Spend about 50% of your time writing, reviewing, and deploying code.
●Oversee machine learning and large language model (LLM) pipelines and APIs, including OpenAI (GPT-3.5 and GPT-4), Azure (OpenAI), Anthropic (Claude), and others.
 
In The First Week, Expect To:
●Deploy a feature.
●Get up to speed on the product and the team.
●Meet with the broader team and understand their roles and responsibilities.
●Understand the technical architecture and roadmap.
 
In The First Month, Expect To:
●Ship 1-2 major product features or technical enhancements.
●Review the current engineering work and identify areas for improvement.
●Work with the broader team to develop a prioritized backlog of technical work.
●Build an understanding of Valence’s approach to first-time manager coaching and how it translates into product requirements. Ship an LLM-powered coaching scenario.
 
In The First Three Months, Expect To:
●Scope, break down and execute multiple on large technical projects.
●Drive improvements to our codebase and process to quickly build secure, maintainable software.
●Ensure that all code is of high quality and is easily maintainable.
 
In The First 6-12 Months, Expect To:
●Continue shipping work on major product initiatives, such as launching
●Continue to oversee the broader technical team and ensure that all work is executed efficiently and effectively
●Become a critical member of the team that is responsible for the success of the product
●Take on additional responsibility as a senior member of Valence’s team.
●Take the product to scale with dozens of Fortune 1000 companies and thousands of users.
 
What We're Looking For:
●Experience working with Python and Django
●Experience working with AWS infrastructure (Elastic Container Service, Terraform, Relational Data Store, etc.)
●Experience with LLMs and ML/data is a plus
●Experience hiring and managing a team.
●Experience managing and executing on large technical endeavors.
●Experience owning a technical architecture and roadmap.
●Exposure to early-stage startups, preferably B2B Saas.

Location
This is a primarily remote, work-from-home role. There are quarterly gatherings in person
(December, March, June, September) for 4 -5 days of co working. Candidates must be comfortable to travel and have the necessarily passport/authorization to travel internationally.
