We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced manager to help lead our technical accounting and financial reporting function. In this strategic role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with accounting standards, providing technical expertise on complex accounting issues, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting and reporting knowledge and an ability to operate in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. The role involves working with cross-functional teams, senior management, and external auditors to identify and resolve technical accounting issues and financial reporting matters. This position will report to the Senior Director of Accounting & Reporting.
What you will do:
Lead and serve as a key subject matter expert on US GAAP and GAAP reporting requirements such as acquisitions, leases, capitalized software, equity transactions, and financial statement reviewIdentify, research, and document the Company's technical accounting transactions; work proactively with external auditors to drive timely closure of technical accounting matters. This is not limited to proposing accounting judgment and solutions, preparing technical accounting memos and analysis of transactions under US GAAPReview and analyze new accounting pronouncements to determine impact on the Company and when applicable, lead the documentation and implementation of new standardsResponsible for global stock based compensation and equity accountingPerform and review the technical accounting and relevant journal entries for certain technical accounting areas, which may include leases (ASC 842), goodwill impairment testing, internally developed software, acquisition accounting, etc.Manage the Company's financial reporting process and all external compliance reporting, including drafting of footnote disclosures for technical accounting areasDesign, implement and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures and controls to ensure accounting processes comply with best practice financial reportingAssist with month-end close, financial statement review and integration of M&A transactionsBuild strong relationships with cross-functional team members while leading important and complex accounting topicsAct as a primary point of contact with external auditors during annual audit of the financial statementsAd hoc projects, analysis and reporting as required by managementWhat you will bring to Coupa:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA license with in-depth knowledge of US GAAP5+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years of Big 4 public accountingSignificant experience in technical accounting and financial reporting. Strong breadth and depth of knowledge and experience in stock-based compensation, lease accounting, capitalized software development costs, capitalized commissions, cash flows, and business combinationsSelf-starter, ability to work independently, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skillsOrganized, able to multitask and prioritize, with exceptional project and time management skillsAgility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environmentExcellent communication skills to effectively communicate complex accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholdersAbility to work cross-functionally to obtain all relevant facts, understand the business requirements, articulate the accounting requirements and communicate the conclusions reachedExperience with NetSuite, ShareWorks software preferred, although not requiredAdvanced Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets skills requiredThe estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
• Based in California: $104,550 - 123,000
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state.
