Level - Level 4

Salary - Circa £50,000 per annum DOE or EUR 60,000 if based in Europe. Please note local pay bands will apply depending on the location of the successful applicant.

Climate Bonds are looking for an experienced Taxonomy Manager on a 2 year Fixed Term Contract. In this role you will coordinate the development of the taxonomies across the portfolio of the Climate Bonds Taxonomy Team, including the Senegalese Taxonomy. The successful candidate will report to Climate Bonds’ Head of Taxonomies to design the Technical Screening Criteria, Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) and Minimum Social Safeguards (MSS) of taxonomies in collaboration with sectoral experts at the local level and the Climate Bonds Standards Team; reviewing, translating, proofreading, and formatting documents; analysing risks; identifying and escalating potential issues and managing resources. Your role is to ensure the taxonomy projects meet quality standards, deliver on time and within budget.  

Key Relationships:

Internal: 

  1. Cross-functional coordination to manage deliverables across the different project components to ensure objectives, outcomes and outputs are achieved in line with milestones set by the funder and overall programme design. The position might involve travelling to Senegal.  
  2. D&G for the timely and effective reporting of visibility across deliverables, resources, and budgets in collaboration with the Head of Taxonomies and the Programme Assurance and Learning Team in accordance with reporting cycles and methodology agreed. 

External: 

  1. Funders – maintain effective communication with funders to ensure delivery of objectives.   
  2. Potential funders – work with the Head of Taxonomies and fundraising team providing bid proposals technical and project management content e.g., estimation of effort and budget and delivery schedules when required.  
  3. Retain a high-level involvement in green finance discussions especially in the African region and the EU keeping pace with the ongoing developments in taxonomies, regulations, policy, market & investor trends. 
  4. Providing delivery support and coordination with the Ambire Global Team to ensure cross-team alignment of approach with the delivery of outputs and the timely coordination of communications with the funder. 

Responsibilities:

As the Taxonomy Manager, your responsibilities will include successfully delivering the taxonomy project by coordinating goals, budgets, objectives, and managing interdependencies. You will also be responsible for establishing meaningful connections with local stakeholders, including funders, project counterparts, and Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs or equivalent). In addition, you will be in charge of updating project planning and distributing necessary project materials, such as work plans and information on deliverables.

You will also have the responsibility of ensuring that project management tools are kept up-to-date and accurately reflect any changes.

If required you will support the preparation and delivery of capacity building and training sessions that are related to the project.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring that project documentation is regularly updated, project budget expenditures are closely monitored, and financial reports are meticulously prepared in close collaboration with our finance team. These reports will serve both internal purposes and the important task of donor reporting.

As part of your responsibilities, you will be the point of contact for clients and donors on behalf of Climate Bonds. Additionally, you will provide valuable support to our design team in the development of new projects as they arise. You will have the opportunity to showcase your skills in creating compelling presentations, excel spreadsheets, and reports that are directly tied to the successful delivery of each project.

Requirements

  • Significant work experience in a project and programme management related role  
  • Strong critical thinking, strategic and problem-solving skills, able to drive change and provide clarity on the implications of complex issues and how these will affect the programme. 
  • At least 8 years of work experience in a project and programme management related role

  • Significant experience at a senior level of managing competing resource demands and time conflicts in a sensitive and efficient manner to achieve organisational goals and create a culture of working collaboratively. 
  • Previous experience successfully managing multiple, high value and complex grants and/or contracts. 
  • Knowledge of climate change and climate change solutions across a variety of industrial, energy, agriculture and / or financial sectors. 
  • Minimum BA, Advanced degree preferred in business administration, law, climate policy or another relevant field. 
  • Strong project management skills managing multiple, high value, complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and programme growth. 
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to take a collaborative approach. Strength in managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance. 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to bring a positive outlook to working at Climate Bonds and energising teams around the mission. 
  • Effective presentation style as well as strong speaking and written communication skills. 
  • Experience of developing and managing a network of professional relationships especially in developing economies. 
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for the Climate Bond Initiative’s mission 
  • Fluency in French is required for this role
