Student Financial Aid Specialist

About the Position

Meridian University is looking for a Financial Aid specialist.  In this role you will focus on advising students on financial aid options as well as implementing aid awarding and processing. Candidates will use their experience with Federal Student Aid and other types of financial aid to maintain and develop systems and processes.

Classification: Part-Time
Location: 100% Remote or Hybrid in Santa Monica or Petaluma, CA

Key Responsibilities
  • Award and process Federal Student Aid.
  • Award and process other aid sources administered by the University.
  • Be a key player in the maintenance and development internal financial aid programs.
  • Coordinate and take part in student account processes.
  • Interface with students and liaise with third party administrators.
  • Maintain alignment of internal documentation and processes with federal and state regulations.
  • Oversee compliance matters in conjunction with the University's Quality and Compliance team.
  • Produce and maintain educational materials and support systems for students.
  • Review student adherence with eligibility requirements.
  • As needed, assist with billing and payments, document management, auditing, and general FSA coordination.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field OR 3+ years' experience in relevant roles.
  • Experience working with higher education students.
  • In-depth knowledge of the student application process.
  • Ability to stay "in the know" regarding federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid regulations.
  • Exceptional time management skills, with an interest in efficiency and optimization.
  • Comfort in fast-paced and continuously evolving environments.
  • Advanced critical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with graduate students.
  • Leadership experience.
