About the Role:

The Staff Engineer at Heady will oversee our technology best practices across all of our engineering teams. We are in search of our next technical leader who will assist in shaping the future of Heady Engineering. Critical to this role is a strong technical background across various levels of software engineering. Collaboration and mentorship of peers is required to help grow and scale our team to success. The Staff Engineer is expected to be hands-on with coding so as to be able to help teams resolve issues if needed, and also create POCs to demonstrate the feasibility of new technologies to the team. Engineering excellence and guidance are paramount for success, as Heady focuses on hardening our internal processes and best practices to level up our engineering offerings and deliverable a higher-quality product. This role reports directly to the VP of Engineering and will be at the forefront of future opportunities at a growing agency.

 

About You:

You are a hands-on technical leader with enthusiasm for engineering excellence and team success. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can collaborate with an established team to refine our engineering rituals and focus on quality and speed of delivery. You have an awareness of emerging industry practices and have a talent for creating usable, scalable, and well-tested software. You want to work in a highly collaborative, agile, and respectful environment. You love learning new technologies, languages, and tools, and you have a passion for building frameworks and platforms. You have knowledge of mobile apps and single-page applications, and you are equally comfortable with Front-end UI development and Server-side development on public cloud platforms such as AWS. Must be able and willing to work with a distributed team across time zones and hemispheres.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Technical Knowledge - Knowledge of client and server-side development as well as an understanding of mobile app development. Deep understanding of distributed systems and cloud technologies.
  • Engineering Best Practices - Audit and implement engineering best practices across all teams through guidance and collaboration. Ensure rollout and enforcement.
  • Research & Development - Lead the research and development efforts to identify new technologies and products that can enhance business operations
  • Collaboration – Work closely with our engineering managers and staff engineers as well as other senior leaders throughout the organization. 
  • Compliance - Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Direction / Guidance - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team when needed.
  • Accountability – An engineering leader is responsible for the performance and actions of the team. Be accountable for best practice implementation, as well as oversight.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with a minimum of 7-10 years experience in developing and managing large-scale cloud systems.
  • Leadership experience and the ability to interact with peers and clients at all levels.
  • Be a self-starter, be able to take initiative, create methods for delivering solutions, and establish best practices.
  • Strong communication, presentation, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Able to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.

Salary Range: $150-$250k USD annually + incentives
