JOB OVERVIEW:
As a Staff Accountant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing payroll processes, managing accounts payable, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization. Your responsibilities will extend to general ledger maintenance, budgeting and forecasting, compliance, expense management, software proficiency, and participation in ad hoc projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Hands-On Accounting: Execute day-to-day accounting tasks such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations with meticulous attention to detail.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing accurate and comprehensive financial reports for monthly and yearly close processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Records Management: Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records, including documentation of transactions, invoices, and financial statements, to facilitate smooth auditing and reporting procedures.
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, offering insights and recommendations to optimize financial processes and controls.
- Audit Support: Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing audit schedules, reconciling accounts, and facilitating communication between auditors and relevant departments.
- Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate accounting procedures and workflows to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct insightful financial analysis, such as variance analysis and trend identification, to support decision-making processes and drive business performance improvements.
- Ad Hoc Projects: Undertake ad hoc projects and initiatives as assigned by management, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving business needs and priorities.
- Financial Modeling: Develop and maintain financial models to analyze business performance, forecast future financial outcomes, and support strategic decision-making processes.
- Cash Flow Forecasting and Budgeting: Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts and budgets to facilitate effective financial planning, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA/CMA certification is preferred.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Hands-On Experience: Currently or recently engaged in hands-on accounting activities within a US-based SMB, demonstrating a strong understanding of financial operations in a similar context.
- Remote Work Experience: Proven track record of effectively managing accounting tasks and responsibilities in a remote work environment, showcasing self-discipline and accountability.
- Reliability: Demonstrated history of reliable performance, consistently meeting deadlines, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality in financial reporting and analysis.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing priorities, workloads, and processes with ease, demonstrating resilience and a proactive approach to managing shifting demands.
- Extensive Remote Job Experience: Extensive experience in remote work environments, showcasing the ability to remain productive, engaged, and communicative in a virtual setting.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in QuickBooks Online (QBO), adept at navigating its functionalities to perform accounting tasks efficiently; familiarity with other accounting software is advantageous.
- Passion for Learning: Demonstrated eagerness to expand knowledge and skills in accounting principles and practices, coupled with a proactive approach to self-directed learning and development.
- Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data, identify patterns and anomalies, and draw meaningful insights to inform decision-making processes and drive business improvements.

- GAAP Knowledge: Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application in financial reporting and compliance requirements.
