Job Description

Under the direction of team leads and managers, this position is responsible for the design, implementation, management, and administration of enterprise database systems including the security, quality, recoverability, and integrity of data resources. This position may also have responsibility for functions such as user administration, database configuration, backup and restore, disaster recovery, deployment, and capacity management activities.

Models’ ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with Citizen’s core values, ethics, and information protection policies

  • Provide database administration for production and development environments including backup and recovery, performance tuning, physical sizing and monitoring activities, and support developers by influencing best practice, enforcing standards, and assisting with script execution.
  • Understand, monitor, and administer database security and perform the role of gatekeeper in accordance with established security policies and audit guidelines.
  • Contribute to the refinement of organizational standards and best practices, and champion quality service delivery by enforcing such standards.
  • Install, configure, and evaluate multiple versions of RDBMS software including SQL Server and Oracle in both single-instance and high-availability methodologies.
  • Support efforts to monitor and tune databases to improve performance throughout the system development lifecycle, including development and production environments as well as load tests simulating catastrophic event scenarios.
  • Contribute to Total Cost of Ownership within the environments as it relates to licensing (Software, OS, tools), server costs, Cloud metering and Space/CPU utilization.


Qualifications
  • High School Diploma | GED
  • Associate/Technical Degree OR 2 years relevant experience, OR a combination of both college and experience equivalent to 2 years
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or related field OR 4 years of relevant experience OR a combination of college education and relevant work experience equivalent to 4 years
  • 3 or more years of data system administration experience including running queries, generating statistics, analyzing data, and tuning and design, and 3 or more years of experience in standard database administration activities such as Backup and Recovery, Security and Authentication, Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • MUST HAVE RECENT DBA experience with both Oracle and SQL DBs (required)
  • SQL Server 2014 – 2016 DBA experience is required
  • Solid knowledge of data manipulation and analysis tools such as Excel, Access, SQL, and SQL Stored Procedures (e.g., TSQL, PL/SQL, and similar languages) is required
  • Solid knowledge of referential integrity and database normalization is required
  • Solid knowledge of database normalization data modeling techniques and experience with database design is required
  • Solid knowledge of Enterprise Systems Data Management and database best practices is required
  • Experience in standard administration activities, such as Backup and Recovery, Security and Authentication, and Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting is required
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and management of SQL Server
  • Experience with after-hours support including troubleshooting jobs, disk space issues, etc.
  • SQL Server or Oracle certifications would be a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience with SQL Server and DB2
  • Experience developing data models and data dictionaries with ERWin, PowerDesigner, Embarcadero, or similar tools.
  • Strong performance monitoring and tuning experience.
  • UNIX scripting and windows job automation skills.
  • SQL Server, DB2 or Oracle certifications.

Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to manage multiple tasks, work in a collaborative team environment; be responsive to project and customer needs, and work under tight deadlines
Ability to work under general supervision with few direct instructions
Ability to work well within a cross-functional development team building relationships with Developers, Testers, and Release Managers to collaborate and deliver database services.
Proven interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including technical documentation skills
Service-oriented, self-motivated, with keen attention to detail
Knowledge or experience in Property & Casualty Insurance industry would be a plus
