Software Technical Program Manager

About the role

Muon Space is seeking a Software Technical Program Manager to join our team.  As a technical program manager (TPM), you will work cross-functionally with engineering leaders across software, hardware, science, and product to drive our programs forward by facilitating effective execution at each stage of development from inception to (literal!) launch. You will collaborate with teams of engineers and scientists to develop project schedules and milestones, identify and fill gaps, flag risks, help with resource estimation/planning and clearly communicate ongoing progress. As a TPM, you will serve as the “glue” holding complex, interdisciplinary Earth-observation programs together in service of our goal of delivering Earth intelligence for a safer and more resilient world.

This role may be remote or located at our headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the definition, implementation, and optimization of software project management processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop roadmaps and establish clear milestones for software development efforts and ultimately usher projects through the entire development life cycle
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, identifying dependencies, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Establish standard reports to provide concise and effective communications to key stakeholders including leadership on program status, key performance indicators, issues/risks and accomplishments
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to project teams on software project management best practices and methodologies.
  • Ensure every team understands what they need to deliver at all times and foster collaboration among teams, facilitating effective decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Leverage your experience to identify, test, and deploy software management initiatives to improve efficiency
  • Facilitate and deliver releases for features and infrastructure contributing to multiple ongoing spacecraft programs 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders in order to define and track resource requirements (e.g. headcount)
  • Aggregate and report on problems with deployed software both in the lab and on orbit
Qualifications
  • BS or MS degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent job experience
  • 3+ years of experience as an individual contributor software engineer
  • 3+ years of experience managing software development projects
  • Proven track record of successfully establishing and optimizing software project management processes.
  • Strong technical background with expertise in software development methodologies, tools, and technologies.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a strong track record of effectively collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in cross functional program management, including planning, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a commitment to driving excellence and innovation.
  • Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Experience with high-reliability embedded software development (aerospace, autonomous vehicle, medical device, etc.) 
  • Experience with embedded and FPGA development

ITAR/EAR Requirements:

This position requires access to export controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must either be (A) a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, (B) eligible to access the export controlled information without a required export authorization, or (C) eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the required export authorization from the applicable U.S. government agency. The Company may, for legitimate business reasons, decline to pursue any export licensing process.

Salary

The salary range for this role is $95K- $190K and will depend on a candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.
