Senior Technical Program Manager, Hardware

We believe that the future of transportation is automated. Automated travel will be safer, more comfortable, more efficient and a powerful economic enabler for our communities. However, automating driving is a massively complex engineering challenge, requiring vehicles to navigate social norms, regional traffic patterns, unpredictable weather incidents, and a host of anomalous events. While billions of dollars have already been spent trying to solve this problem, a comprehensive answer remains frustratingly elusive. We believe that the final answer lies with roadway infrastructure.

Join us in building the roads of the future. Cavnue, which in April 2022 announced the closing of its Series A at $130M, is bridging technology and road infrastructure to realize a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future for automated transportation. Cavnue’s experienced team sits at the intersection of technology, infrastructure, and government—working together to develop and deploy the world’s most advanced roads. We are incorporating physical and digital infrastructure that unlock the full spectrum of capabilities of current and future automated vehicle technologies. We believe in a world in which road infrastructure shares in the complexity of autonomy and, instead of being another problem to solve for, becomes a core part of the solution.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Technical Program Manager to drive Cavnue’s hardware engineering execution from early concepts through production builds and deployment. The ideal candidate has hands-on technical Hardware and/or Systems Engineering experience, new product introduction (NPI) knowledge (especially for safety critical hardware systems including perception sensors, compute, and communication technologies), and the ability to introduce and manage robust hardware product development processes and methods. You will work with a world-class team of engineers, product and program managers, operations, and business leaders to help deliver on Cavnue’s mission.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Manage Hardware-centric technical programs across various product development stages (explore, concept, prototype, EVT, DVT, PVT, etc.), defining milestones, success and exit criteria, budget, and resources to meet technical and business requirements
  • Proactively identify and implement product development processes to ensure alignment, quality, safety at every program stage
  • Manage multiple generations of Hardware programs in parallel, and build processes / rigor around new product introduction, testing, and launch
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering (software, systems, civil), manufacturing, and safety teams to ensure hardware progress is linked intro broader company activities and goals
  • Align the teams around hardware design trade-offs, requirements, test, release, manufacturing, and validation plans for successful on-time delivery of on-spec hardware
  • Plan schedules, identify risks, communicate with stakeholders, and present program updates to leaders and executives

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical field (preferably Engineering-focused, e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Systems, or Computer) or equivalent practical experience
  • Self-motivated, creative, and proactive to drive tight schedules and work in time-sensitive environments.
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining buy-in around multi-phase hardware product timelines and delivery plans
  • Expertise with project management tools, software, and best practices
  • Detailed knowledge of product development and new production introduction lifecycle and processes
  • Ability to see the big picture across teams, timelines, and inputs, to ensure hardware development meets broader system-level program delivery
  • Ability to be a technical thought partner for hardware engineering team members, discussing trade-offs, technical designs, and risks
  • Ability to synthesize and distill often complex and competing inputs into key themes and recommendations
  • Strong focus on execution
  • 3+ years of Technical Program Management / Engineering experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Hands-on technical experience (Hardware and/or Systems Engineering) strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in automotive, ITS / civil engineering, or other “physical & digital” hardware product development strongly preferred
  • Experience leading development and launch of a major new product introduction program
  • Familiarity with key hardware technologies for a standard “autonomy stack” (perception sensors, compute, networking, mounts, etc.)
  • Early-stage start-up experience is a plus
