Senior Front End Engineer (JQuery & VanillaJS)

Zipdev is looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to collaborate with a company that provides an operating system for public agencies to communicate, listen, and make informed decisions.

The only end-to-end solution for the public engagement process, the client's Platform is composed of three core components: Public | Engagement Hub, Public | CRM, and Public | Contact. As an all-in-one engagement and communications platform, our mission is to connect government agencies with the communities they serve and facilitate equitable participation and representative data.

Communication and work format:

1. Communication skills are paramount, as this person will be working with product and customer success stakeholders
2. Must attend team ceremonies, be on Slack, and participate in code review on Microsoft DevOps
3. Opinionated on best practices with respect to Javascript and CSS approaches

In terms of the tech stack, right now we use C# atop the .NET MVC framework. On the front end, we use jQuery and object-oriented javascript modules to deploy a mix of MVC-backed and API-driven interfaces. For styling we use BootStrap and an application theme that could use.

Work with the product manager to build beautiful, functional interfaces

Our product team is still relatively small, so you’ll be working closely with our product manager, UX lead, and CEO on a regular basis to transform wireframes and stories into front-end experiences admins and the public will love. You’ll have the backing of an engineer ing team with a collective 60+ years of .NET and C# experience, who of course can still learn as much from you as you can from them!

Implement innovative approaches to help us move faster

As you gain familiarity with the codebase, we’ll look to you for fresh perspective on the tooling and front-end approaches we use here. We’re very interested in moving towards TypeScript and React, and would love to engage your mind in the decision making.

Mentor and provide expertise in code review

Given your experience, we’ll look to you to provide guidance for developers on the team with less frontend experience. This will practically look like “peer programming” sessions and regular code review comments. We expect you to continue building your skills and knowledge of new approaches and share these with the team as a key team members.

Bring empathy to design and accessibility

Given our focus on empathy and lowering barriers to participation, accessibility is a core competency here, and we’ll need you to be adept at having a solid understanding of building in accessibility for blind and vision-impaired members of the communities we serve.

Requirements

• Senior-level will act as our lead front-end person on our cross-functional team.
• 5+ years of professional front-end development experience make basic Html, CSS, and javascript tasks routine.
• You’ve worked with jQuery for at least 3 years, and consider yourself a javascript ninja, even though you’d never say that out loud.

Preferred Requirements:

• You’ve built on the .NET MVC stack and are comfortable with building modular, object oriented javascript structures.
• Has demonstrated a history of engagement on GitHub and/or Stack Overflow

Nice to have:

1. Typescript Experience
2. React (we don't use it, but are considering adopting it)
3. Experience with mockup tools like Adobe XD
