Caribou is looking for an experienced transaction attorney to join its Legal Department.  This position will report to the Chief Legal Officer and may be on-site (Berkeley, CA), remote, or hybrid. 

Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage a high volume and wide variety of complex contracts typical for a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, including agreements with clinical research organizations, contract manufacturing organizations, suppliers, vendors, clinical trial sites, consultants, etc.
  • Provide legal advice to internal teams and management on contract interpretations, dispute resolutions, and other legal issues related to the development of cell therapy product candidates
  • Communicate and interact on a regular basis internally and externally, including with third-party in-house and outside counsel
  • Train and guide business units on contracts and relevant legal issues
  • Interpret existing contracts
  • Assist on various other legal matters, as needed

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in transactional law within biotech/pharma, with in-house experience strongly preferred
  • JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the State of  California
  • Significant experience advising on, drafting, negotiating, and finalizing complex agreements
  • Commercial agreement and compliance expertise, a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to grasp scientific and technical concepts quickly and thoroughly
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills across a variety of contract types
  • Proven track record of leading contract drafting to execution; strong initiative and a get-it-done attitude
  • Ability to collaborate, to work independently, and to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with a high level of professionalism and with the ability to reprioritize on short notice
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate legal advice in a clear, concise manner, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work on a variety of matters simultaneously
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet specific deadlines
  • Dedication to quality, reliability, and the highest professional standards in all matters
  • Meticulous attention to detail; highly organized
  • Creative and entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving and process improvement

Caribou compensation and benefits include:

  • Comprehensive compensation package, which includes competitive salary, bonus, and equity for all employees
  • Salary Range: $250,000 - $280,000. This represents the present low and high end of the Company’s pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location, skill, experience, and performance.
