Sales Tax Analyst - Prospective Client Advisor

Welcome to TaxValet! We're seeking a friendly and motivated Prospective Client Advisor who has experience working within the sales tax industry and a strong accounting background to join our team. If you love talking with people, are a good listener, and have a deep understanding of sales tax concepts, including sales tax nexus, product taxability, tax settings, sales tax software, and the sales tax filing process, we would love to hear from you.

Role Overview

As a Prospective Client Advisor, you will play a critical role in transforming the sales tax landscape with our unique approach to sales tax services. You will meet with prospective clients, understand their sales tax needs, and advise them on how TaxValet's approach can help them. You'll help prospective clients understand core sales tax concepts such as nexus, product taxability, and tax calculation to build trust in our team. The ideal candidate enjoys the social aspects of working with people and can explain complex concepts in simple terms.

As a Prospective Client Advisor, you will be a trusted consultant to our clients, guiding them towards solutions that solve their problems, rather than simply trying to sell them something that may not meet their needs.

Responsibilities

Here’s what the job entails: 

  • Helping prospective clients understand how sales tax works: We know that our clients aren’t looking for a sales representative, but for a trusted advisor who can guide them through their sales tax journey. You will help them understand core sales tax concepts such as nexus, product taxability, and tax calculation to build trust in our service offering.
  • Advising prospective clients on TaxValet’s services: You'll meet with clients who are interested in learning more about TaxValet and share how our unique sales tax service works. Don’t worry, lots of training will be provided.
  • Coordinating new client sign-ups in alignment with onboarding availability: As a Prospective Client Advisor, you will coordinate which clients start working with the New Client Onboarding team on a particular date, and work with them to pinpoint which prospective clients are in our “sweet spot” where we consistently deliver exceptional results.
  • Collaborating with Marketing on Content Creation and Campaigns: Providing input to the marketing team to help create content that will generate and close new business. You will provide feedback on content such as handouts, proposals, emails, and blog posts.

Specific Measures of Success

After one year, your job performance as a Prospective Client Advisor will be evaluated based on two primary metrics:

  • Onboarding Schedule Fill Rate: To maintain a reliable and consistent pace of growth, it is important to onboard new clients according to our internal schedule. Your role is to ensure that 85% of the onboarding spots are filled on schedule each year.
  • New Client Filing Revenue: Your goal is to generate at least $300,000 in new TaxValet filing subscription revenue each calendar year. We almost always have a waiting list for new clients, so you shouldn’t be nervous about accomplishing this. 

Qualifications

To be successful as a Prospective Client Advisor at TaxValet, we are looking for someone who is passionate about sales tax and can explain complex concepts to our prospective clients. We are requiring direct experience working with sales tax in order to be eligible to apply for this position.

More specifically, we’re looking for someone who has:

  • Direct experience working with sales tax concepts, including sales tax nexus, product taxability, tax settings, and the sales tax filing process. Applicants who have attended IPT Sales Tax School I/II, Sales Tax Institute training, or other sales tax-specific training will be prioritized.
  • Demonstrated experience in a client-facing role, such as sales tax consulting, client management, or advisory.
  • Familiarity with sales tax software, such as TaxJar or Avalara.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to ask insightful questions that get to the heart of a client's challenges.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and remote environment.

Compensation and Benefits

Cash Compensation

We offer a competitive compensation plan that includes a base salary of $60,000 - $75,000 per year, based on experience, and an incentive bonus to meet business objectives. The team-based onboarding schedule bonus potential is $14,000 per year.
