The role

Lovevery is looking for an experienced German-language qualitative researcher to support the execution of a focus group with German customers in the months of September and October, 2023. The researcher will play a key role in helping us learn more about our customers in an important market. Based on performance, there is the potential for additional work on future research studies with Lovevery, including recurring quarterly focus groups following the same format.

In collaboration with the lead researcher from the Lovevery team, the freelancer will help moderate, analyze and report the findings from one 90-minute, remote customer focus group to be conducted in the German language.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in planning sessions with the lead researcher and research coordinator to finalize the participant roster and prepare for the session.
  • Review existing German-language participant communications and update as needed.
  • Translate and prepare a German-language discussion guide for the focus group based on a previously developed English-language template.
  • Moderate the remote focus group in the last week of September using Zoom or similar software in German language and following the discussion guide.
  • Joint debrief with lead researcher and stakeholders immediately following the session.
  • Facilitate limited real-time interpretation to address stakeholder follow-up questions during the focus group.
  • Capture and translate key quotes or video clips from focus groups recordings that are representative of significant findings.
  • Deliver an English-language summary of key findings and themes from the focus group to the lead researcher as a follow-up deliverable.
  • Potentially participate in a readout meeting along with the lead researcher and key stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience conducting qualitative research such as focus groups or in-depth interviews.
  • Fluent in German with experience living in and/or conducting research in Germany.
  • Preference for researchers with experience in direct consumer research (e.g, UX, product, ecommerce).
  • Ability to familiarize yourself deeply with core research goals and thoughtfully moderate conversation in order to elicit nuanced insights. 
  • Experience and comfort handling standard focus group dynamics: engaging quiet participants, redirecting disruptive participants, etc.
  • Experience in the early childhood industry is a plus.

Anticipated scope:

  • 20-30 hours of work including prep and follow-up over 4-5 weeks.
