Job Title: Project Director

Summary: Responsible for leading a team in anticipating production challenges and proactively driving solutions that enable teams to realize ideas without compromising quality or well-being. Effectively delegates, consistently anticipates. Forms plans of action and achieves buy-in with their director peers. Directs project managers to achieve project milestones, solve production problems, and maintain studio momentum. Continuously seeks ways to improve the PM team's craft and the project's efficiency. Drives progress with a vision and structure for production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Drives with a vision the production structure, process, and efficiency in overall game development. Ensures organizational cohesiveness toward project objectives as a member of production leadership.
  • Delegates project responsibilities and ownership of aspects of the game to their assigned PM (Project Management) team.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of proficiency in methodology and craft and can find and successfully implement innovative solutions to project challenges.
  • Acts as the studio liaison with Sony production staff, which includes negotiating and communicating project updates and schedule changes, while fostering a collaborative production environment.
  • Anticipates and proactively solves problems both independently and collaboratively, and through effective delegation to project managers.
  • Responsible for the creation, modification, and maintenance of project macro schedule and delegates assigned sub-content to project managers. This includes establishing milestone goals. Develops strategy with director group to ensure all deadlines are met in relation to project objectives and scope.
  • Delegates the logging, review, and re-prioritization of tasks and bugs to appropriate project managers and craft leads. Guides and approves changes made to ensure project goals are met.
  • Maintains a constant awareness of game content status and quality levels through regular play sessions.
  • Anticipates scheduling overruns through effective gathering, analysis, and presentation of measurable data. Initiates or delegates actions to resolve scheduling issues and collaborates on workable solutions.
  • Proactively ensures project updates and changes are communicated to the development team and Insomniac executive team.
  • Leads the creation of milestone deliverable documentation, collaborating with project managers to coordinate goals across diverse disciplines.
  • Leads with a vision the implementation of new or refined production methods.
  • Develops collaborative relationships across all peers and departments.
  • Consistently achieves and demonstrates Insomniac’s cultural leadership values.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is responsible for project-focused supervision of a title’s project management team and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include participation in interviewing, hiring, and mentoring employees alongside PM Managers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising and communicating team performance to PM Managers; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Eight plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Participation as a Project Manager in the completion of one full game cycle is required.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Project. Working knowledge of bug tracking database(s) is required, Jira or other industry standard is preferred. Working knowledge of version control software. Perforce is preferred.

Other Skills:

  • Solves problems both independently and collaboratively and adheres to the studio’s expectations of cultural leadership. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Must be able to present ideas clearly and work well within a large team environment. Must be a good team leader and be able to make informed decisions to achieve desired results. Ability to create and maintain good relationships with other departments as well as external publisher.
