The Role
As a key player in our People & Culture team, the Sr. Payroll & Benefits Specialist will take ownership of payroll and benefits for our rapidly scaling team across Canada and the US, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. This role will ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local regulations, while maintaining accurate records for all payroll transactions. As a key point of contact, this role will require strong communication and collaboration with employees, internal teams, external vendors, and regulatory authorities to ensure seamless payroll operations, precise reporting, and effective benefits management. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:- Process semi- monthly payrolls using Rippling for Canadian and US team members
- Ensure all payroll transactions are processed efficiently, including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Analyze and interpret financial data, payroll reports, and journal entries, using insights from data to optimize processes and benefits administration
- Reconcile payroll accounts and benefits deductions, and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain and update payroll records and employee information
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports as required.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other company-provided benefits.
- Manage annual renewals and open enrolment.
- Enroll new employees in benefits programs and manage changes due to life events.
- Address and resolve any employee queries related to payroll and benefits.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries and issues.
- Coordinate with benefits providers and brokers to ensure seamless benefits administration.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Complete all payroll and benefits-related filing, reports, and documentation.
- Stay current with changes in payroll and benefits regulations and ensure company compliance.
- Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation and reports.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance payroll and benefits administration efficiency.
- Collaborate with the People and Finance team to improve processes to drive efficiency.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU NEED TO BE SOMEONE WHO:- Has a proven track record of meticulous accuracy in processing payroll and benefits; you're the first to catch potential errors!
- Demonstrates high integrity and maturity in dealing with confidential or sensitive employee information
- Is a “Builder”; comfortable operating in some ambiguity, and excited to help set up new processes to level up
- Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and can effectively engage with candidates and hiring teams
- Exhibits strong organizational skills and can effectively prioritize tasks with tight deadlines in line with company objectives without sacrificing quality or accuracy
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:- Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration, preferably in a company with 200+ employees
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or similar certification preferred
- Proficiency with payroll software and systems
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian and US payroll regulations and compliance.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Bonus points if you have- Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or US. equivalent certification

Candidates must be located in Canada to be considered.
We are organized as a remote team, as such we are looking for candidates who can work effectively remotely. You must have access to a secure high speed internet connection and a secure workspace to ensure security of private information. This role is available on a permanently remote basis.
