New Arrivals Cultural Orientation Coordinator

The New Arrivals Cultural Orientation Associate will be responsible for conducting cultural orientations with each newly arriving refugee family that includes topics such as the role of World Relief, budgeting and personal finance, housing, and transportation. This position will conduct assessments with each family after they receive all components of their orientation to assess comprehension as well as identify areas of curriculum improvement.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Schedule and conduct multiple session cultural orientations, done within an office or home setting, within the first 75 days of arrival for each newly arriving refugee family
  • Arrange for transportation and interpretation as necessary for each scheduled cultural orientation training session
  • Arrange for the completion the completion of a public transit system orientation with each newly arriving refugee family that includes practicing taking the bus and train
  • Conduct a cultural orientation assessment with each adult refugee prior to their 90th day after arrivals.
  • Based on cultural orientation assessment results, identify consistent areas of needed comprehension improvement, and develop plans to increase comprehension in areas identified as needing improvement.
  • Accurately case note interactions with refugee participants
  • Accurately maintain and update case files records as required by Resettlement & Placement (R&P) program guidelines
  • Actively participate in department meetings, staff development opportunities, program trainings, community activities, and organizational events
  • Provide training and collaboration with volunteers who assist in cultural orientation delivery
  • Assist with transportation needs of class participants as needed
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Demonstrated compassion, patience, and cross-cultural sensitivity
  • Demonstrated teaching and coaching skills with the ability to provide ongoing orientation to refugee participants
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed, accurate records
  • Highly self-motivated with strong follow-through and ability to work independently
  • Cross-cultural experience and/or knowledge of the refugee/immigrant experience
  • Fluency in additional language such as Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, French, Rohingya or Spanish strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working in a team environment


Requirements
  • MS Office skills required
  • Valid driver’s license, and ability/willingness to drive 15-passenger van required
  • Ability to work occasional early mornings, evenings or weekends as necessary

·         While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations

·         The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-15 pounds.

·         Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information.

·         The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

 

·         General office setting. World Relief also offers hybrid and remote schedules for limited positions.

·         Great lengths of time working on computer, reading from computer screen, entering information, standing at copier or fax machine, and some time on the phone or in virtual meetings may be required.

·         Year-end archiving activities involve repeated lifting and bending.

·         Physical, emotional and intellectual demands

·         Equipment used: Employee computer (desktop or laptop), printer, and copier.
