Big Think is a new media publisher exploring the world’s biggest questions with the world’s biggest thinkers. We release short-form interview videos with academics, researchers, scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and activists who are grappling with the world’s biggest and most interesting questions.

What You’ll Do

Manage - Implied in all this is an ability to manage projects and other people. Careful attention to detail and timelines is crucial.
Edit - Your primary job is attending to operational and managerial duties (e.g., scheduling articles for publication, processing invoices, and generally serving as the “oil” that helps the editorial engine run), as well as commissioning and copy editing articles from freelancers and staff writers.
Collaborate - The editorial team doesn’t operate in a vacuum. Success is truly a company-wide effort. So part of the job involves collaborating with our talented colleagues — video producers, publishers, and social media experts.
Research - Another duty is to identify stories that should be written and to assign them to freelancers and staff writers.
Recruit - We have a team of freelance writers. Part of your job will be identifying new freelance writers who can expand our editorial coverage.
Assist - Your job also will include performing other related duties assigned by the Executive Editor and other senior editors.

What You’ll Need

5+ years of experience in journalism with an ability to cover a wide range of topics
Preferably experience managing direct reports and a publication schedule
Extreme, almost obsessive attention to detail
Flexibility (this is not a typical 9-to-5 job)
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, quickly growing startup and learn quickly
Unparalleled verbal and especially written communication skills
Love of our type of journalism — intelligent, thought-provoking, often uplifting, and the exact opposite of the cynicism and partisanship that drives mainstream media outlets
