Manager, Grant Accountant (Federal & Non-Federal)

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Manager, Grant Accounting will serve as the lead accountant and provide financial oversight for all federal and philanthropy grant expenditures of the organization. This position will provide budget versus actual analysis for each grant, ensure financial accounting of grants is accurate and timely, and ensure all reporting documentation is accurate. This position will partner with various departments in the organization to ensure grant projections are on track and within budgetary constraints. This individual will also ensure the organization abides by all federal and private philanthropy grant financial requirements.

UnboundEd is a virtual organization and this employee can be based anywhere in the United States. UnboundEd has core business hours where we expect all staff to be available from 9 am to 5 pm local time and 10% travel is required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

Accounting: Monitor and track grant expenditures, ensuring proper allocation and utilization of funds in accordance with grant guidelines

  • Prepare monthly expenditure account and balance sheet account reconciliations for grant-related spending
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, account analyses and reconciliations as directed
  • Prepare supporting schedules for filings such as the annual Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR) and annual audit schedules
  • Support with the development of grant time and effort reporting through the use of Excel worksheets and time-tracking software
  • Audit the general ledger to ensure no expenses are missed for all grants regularly

Projections & Reporting: Compare grant spend versus grant budgets and recommend modifications as needed

  • Prepare financial reports and invoices for all grants to ensure timely and accurate submission to government funders and private foundations
  • Assists grant managers with financial information in the preparation of grant proposals
  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure seamless integration of grant financials with overall organizational financial reporting

Grant Management: Continuously improve the automation of the accounting and reporting process for grants

  • Provide support and regular communication with grant managers 
  • Liaise with grant officers for Federal and philanthropic grants
  • Stay informed about changes in grant regulations and accounting standards, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on grant financial management and reporting processes
  • Other projects as required

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Federal Grant Accounting with experience in Consolidated Fiscal Reporting (CFR)
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel is required
  • Other equivalent combinations of relevant experience and training will also be considered

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

UnboundEd offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience and education and a generous benefits package that includes take-as-you-need vacation time, group medical, dental and vision plans, disability and life insurance plans, and an employer-sponsored 401K retirement plan with a 5% employer contribution and no vesting period or salary cap.  This is a three-year, grant-funded (ending September 2026) full-time, exempt position with an annual pay rate of $80,000-$120,000. A compensation offer is based on relevant years of experience in relation to the position.
