Role: Manager, Email

Reports to: Senior Email Manager

Location: This role will be remote in the continental US, Alaska, or Hawaii

Hours: Full-time

Schedule: 9:00 am to 6pm local time

Salary Range: $75,000 - 80,000

Status: Non-Exempt


This is a union position. The Trevor Project recently voluntarily recognized The Communications Workers of America (CWA) as the representative of certain employees for collective bargaining purposes, and this position is in the bargaining unit. The Trevor Project is currently negotiating the first collective bargaining agreement with the union that will cover the terms and conditions of employment for this position.


Overview of the role

The Email Manager will be responsible for the maintenance and nurturing of The Trevor Project’s owned email channel and initiatives from a planning and execution perspective. The Email Manager will support the team in planning and implementing email tactics in service of The Trevor Project’s goals across each of the organization’s program pillars, including crisis services, research, advocacy, education, and more.

Who You Are
  • Experienced. Proven experience managing email programs and have the skillset to assist in planning a clear email marketing strategy set in place by the Senior Email Manager, including experience in curation and editing copy for email. Experience working in Mailchimp or other comparable Email Service Provider platforms is required. Experience in managing email campaigns for nonprofit/not-for-profit organizations is a plus but not required.
  • Collaborator. ​Recognized success in creating relationships with cross-functional teams from varying levels, working closely with colleagues to brainstorm ideas, discuss pros/cons, and develop ways forward. Experienced in fostering an environment where different opinions and approaches can be entertained, considered, and appreciated while working as a team to find a solution. 
  • Communicator. Demonstrated ability to articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms to audiences inside and outside of the organization. Proven skill in distilling complex information into compelling, easily digestible narratives; presents information in an inspiring and persuasive way.
  • Service Delivery and Adaptability. Demonstrates a commitment to outstanding internal and external service to our colleagues, the individuals we serve, our donors, and those with whom we collaborate and communicate.
  • Results-focused. Proven ability to follow and meet stated timelines, managing projects under the guidance of the Senior Email Manager from an idea to completion while optimizing email campaigns to KPIs.
  • Organization and detail orientation. Proven organizational, time, and task management skills and prioritization skills, including results delivery maintained through use of an editorial calendar for planning content in an organized manner. 
  • Innovation. Demonstrated ability in generating ideas to solve problems, balancing innovation with process and efficiency.
  • Mission and Culture Alignment. Demonstrates awareness and support for The Trevor Project’s mission and vision: to end suicide and address mental health crises in the LGBTQ youth community, and create a world where all LGBTQ young people see a bright future for themselves.


What You'll Do
  • Assist in planning the strategy of our email marketing ecosystem, including developing campaign strategy,  designing A/B testing, drafting email copy in partnership with the Content team, documenting processes, managing a content calendar, building email sends and managing email templates, managing audience lists, and facilitating sends across various program pillars.
  • Regularly collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to determine and understand organizational priorities  and how the email program can best serve their departmental messaging.
  • Manage email marketing program projects and timelines for the email team through internally utilized project management software, Asana.
  • Provide guidance to the Email Associate for execution and optimization of email program planning, and deployment for our owned email initiatives, including campaign-specific email initiatives, individual giving email initiatives, and partnership email initiatives. Work closely with external email vendors and our Content team to deploy email strategies, draft copy, and design initiatives. 
  • Maintain and nurture our mailing lists, including growth and retention strategies. 
  • Work in partnership with Senior Email manager and Email Associate to develop and optimize email audience strategies, including but not limited to lead generation and segmentation.
  • Serve as an internal knowledge source in regards to email execution and regularly collaborate with organizational departments to carry out email strategies and tactics aligned with organizational goals across all of The Trevor Project’s program pillars
  • Curate and edit email messaging, as well as develop and maintain scalable processes for regular email optimization.
  • Execute regular campaign reporting by adhering to email marketing KPIs, and execute strategy implementation, project management, tracking, measurement, monthly reporting, and debriefs.
  • Other relevant tasks, duties, or special projects as assigned
