Localization Project Manager

Vimeo, the world’s leading all-in-one video software solution, is seeking an experienced Localization Project Manager to join our Localization Team as a contractor. In this role, you will work closely with the localization manager and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to ensure we deliver the best localized user experience and marketing campaigns to our global markets.

*Please note, This is a short-term project intended for an independent contractor*

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day localization of Vimeo’s products and marketing campaigns across all supported languages. This includes project creation, gathering reference materials, tracking, issue management, and ensuring the timely delivery and quality of localized content.
  • Collaborate with localization vendors’ PMs on projects, serving as their main point of contact for day-to-day tasks to ensure the smooth, thorough, accurate, and timely completion of localization requests.
  • Manage localization QA testing for high-visibility product features by partnering with the localization manager, QA team, product engineers, and localization vendors to create testing plans and escalate any internationalization issues as needed.
  • Continuously manage and optimize linguistic assets (translation memories, term databases, and style guides).
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders and vendors to resolve questions or conflicts related to source file discrepancies, terminology, and language quality by identifying root causes and implementing corrective or preventive actions.
  • Proactively identify and communicate critical issues to senior management, ensuring potential risks are promptly addressed.
  • Analyze root causes, weigh pros and cons, define goals, and propose creative, practical solutions.
  • Work on internal team projects and initiatives as needed, independent of day-to-day project management tasks.
  • Build connections and collaborate with peers across teams to achieve shared goals.
  • Champion localization best practices with cross-functional partners.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 4 years of experience in localization project coordination or localization project management of various content types, from planning to launch
  • Detail-oriented, quality-focused, and proactive
  • Experience using Asana, Jira, and Translation Management Systems (TMS)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and LQAs simultaneously
  • Demonstrated knowledge of localization and internationalization best practices
  • Able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-changing environment and quickly adjust to new project requirements or priorities.
  • Fluency in a language other than English
  • Understanding of cultural nuances and the ability to adapt communication styles and approaches for different audiences
  • A genuine interest in languages, translation, and the leverage of technology to improve localization processes.
  • A commitment to learning and staying up-to-date with the latest localization tools, trends, and best practices.

Bonus Points:

  • BA/BS in translation, linguistics, localization project management, or a related field
  • Experience with Smartling
  • Fluency in Japanese, Korean, French, or German
  • Strong technical problem-solving and bug-investigation skills
  • Experience using data to track project performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
