As part of the wider Product & Privacy Legal team of around 20 lawyers, this role will ensure Canva’s products continue to delight our community and meet our goals, whilst also keeping users safe and meeting community and regulator expectations.

In this space it’s not just what the law says, but how this applies to the technology powering our products and user experience, as well as industry and enforcement trends.

What you’ll do

  • Support the Trust and Safety team to keep our users safe online by providing guidance  on the enforcement of our moderation policies, allowing the business to act swiftly and appropriately

  • Advise on the responsible development and use of AI, including compliance with AI regulations, such as the EU AI Act.
  • Manage authority requests and assist with the preparation of transparency reports, including for the EU Digital Services Act.
  • Support the continued development of the Canva Trust Centre and our internal and external policies and processes on online safety.
  • Work closely with the communications and policy team to ensure we communicate our policies with the press, regulators and our Canva community in a way that has our values front of mind.

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience working as a lawyer, advising on online safety and content moderation matters, preferably within a growing technology company or law firm with technology clients
  • Someone familiar with a number of the key laws in this space, such as the Australian Online Safety Act and the Digital Services Act
  • You are not just an excellent lawyer, but a good human too - Canva’s values are important to us!
  • You are comfortable working across jurisdictions in a truly global team.

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a stack of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

  • Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too
  • Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
  • An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
  • Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally
