THE OPPORTUNITY: 

ActBlue’s legal team is actively seeking a Counsel to lead and own a wide range of legal responsibilities across all of ActBlue’s business functions. The Counsel, reporting to the General Counsel, is a generalist that will provide strategic legal counsel, subject matter expertise, thought partnership and advice to teams across the organization in a variety of practice areas including complex contracts and commercial transactions,  litigation and regulatory matters, corporate & non-profit law, and intellectual property. The Counsel has a keen understanding of mitigating business risk, providing innovative leadership in an evolving technology organization and managing complex projects across teams.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Manage the contracts process, including partnering with key internal stakeholders to develop best practices, policies, procedures, and ongoing training related to contract management. Provide ongoing enhancements to contracting procedures 
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of organizational contracts including SaaS, technology, licensing, partnership and event agreements. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide legal guidance, ensuring contractual agreements align with business objectives
  • Manage and coordinate litigation and adversarial matters, including legal holds, internal discovery, productions, document review, responding to legal process, administering insurance claims, and resolving matters in an effective and efficient manner
  • Develop, implement, and enhance policies, procedures and strategic initiatives to manage and mitigate business risk. Partner with staff across the organization to implement and administer policies and procedures, including providing training as-needed 
  • Monitor and assess federal,state, and local campaign finance, tax, corporate and charitable solicitation laws and legislation. Provide legal analysis for the purpose of facilitating the expansion of ActBlue’s tools and reach
  • Work closely with ActBlue’s Compliance team to respond to campaign finance and other regulatory inquiries
  • Manage state corporate and charitable organization registrations and assist with data collection and completion of annual tax filings and independent audits
  • Work with nationwide outside counsel in an effective, cost-efficient way

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • At least 4 years of experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination 
  • Commitment to ActBlue’s non-profit mission
  • Extensive experience in business contracts and managing complex legal projects and processes
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school and active license to practice law 
  • Ability to provide thought partnership and leadership in developing innovative legal and risk management strategies in a fast-paced and evolving organization 
  • A generalist’s background and/or the ability to learn new areas of the law quickly, manage projects deftly and integrate into the work of stakeholders across the organization

LOCATION AND COMPENSATION: 

This posting is for a full-time, remote, salaried position. Travel may be required on a limited basis to attend all-staff and departmental retreats (1-2 times per year). Additional travel may be required for select positions. ActBlue is currently authorized to support remote work employees in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington D.C., Wisconsin and Wyoming. 

Salary Range Details:

Salary Range: $120,000 - $136,000 

ActBlue is committed to consistent compensation practices across our organization.  Final salary offers will take into account factors such as candidate experience, interview performance and current team salary parity.
