To continue our success story, we are now looking for you to join our team as our new Lead Concept Artist (m/w/d).

Responsibilities:

  • Art Direction and Style:
    ○ Explore, define and maintain the artistic style and visual direction for the game
    ○ Create concept art for characters, environments, props, and key visual elements as well as reference and mood boards
    ○ Collaborate closely with the Art Director and Creative Director to ensure consistency with the vision

  • Team Leadership:
    ○ Lead and mentor a team of concept artists
    ○ Set artistic standards, provide constructive feedback, and inspire creativity
    ○ Foster a collaborative and positive work environment
    ○ Actively identify new areas for team learning and take advantage of opportunities to develop the team

  • Conceptualization and Ideation:
    ○ Translate written and discussed descriptions into compelling visual concepts
    ○ Generate initial ideas and sketches based on design briefs
    ○ Iterate on designs, considering gameplay, narrative and technical constraints based on feedback from stakeholders

  • Collaboration with Other Disciplines:
    ○ Work closely with 3D artists, animators, VFX artists and designers
    ○ Communicate the vision to the team, ensuring alignment across all departments

  • Experience, Innovation and Iteration:
    ○ Apply industry knowledge as well as new tools and workflows to concept development
    ○ Deep dive into new topics and be eager to learn
    ○ Ensure that concept art translates well into game content

  • Project Management:
    ○ Plan and prioritize concept art tasks
    ○ Collaborate with producers and project managers to meet deadlines
    ○ Manage resources efficiently
    ○ Oversee external work to ensure

  • Quality Control and Finalization:
    ○ Review and approve final concept art
    ○ Ensure that the art team adheres to the established style guide
    ○ Contribute to marketing materials and promotional art

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Senior Concept Artist in the gaming industry

  • At least 1 year in a leadership or Lead Artist role

  • Shipped games: Experience working on games that have been released

  • Artistic Excellence: Superior eye for composition, values, mood management via light and color to be applied in digital concept art

  • Software Skills: Proficient in industry-standard software (e.g. Photoshop)

  • Creativity: Proven excellent problem solving skills and ability to produce lots of different ideas

  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to different art styles and genres if the need arises

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and visual communication skills; Good command of English language

Bonus Points:

  • Supporting Software: Routine experience in standard 3D tools (Blender, 3DSMax, MAYA, ZBrush, etc.)

  • Extended Artistic Passion: Knowledge of anatomy, architecture, industrial design, etc.

  • Game Engines: Experience with Unreal Engine

  • Support Software: Familiarity with bug tracking software (JIRA) and versioning systems (Perforce)

  • Passion for Gaming: A deep love for video games and an understanding of player experiences
