About your role:

We are seeking an exceptional lead engineer with expertise in architecting and building Android applications that will enable millions of donors to do more good. As the technical leader of the team, you will play a crucial role in driving the success of our Android app development. You will lead critical projects and features through all product development life cycle elements and help solve complex engineering problems. We're looking for someone who is comfortable working cross-functionally with UX, design, product management, back-end developers, QA, and DevOps. Your team:

Our cross-functional Giving and Android team is passionate about delivering exceptional experiences to our donors. With over 1 million donors and a 5-star app rating, we champion their needs and build award-winning UI/UX. Together, we make giving a beautiful experience, connecting people with the causes they care about. 

You will get to: 

• Lead end-to-end development of features and projects from ideation to production release 
• Lead systems architecture for the Android app and contribute to the architecture of our entire mobile ecosystem 
• Improve the performance, stability, and overall quality of user experience on mobile devices
• Take direct ownership of the Android app quality as indicated by Google Play user ratings and ensure a 4.9 rating
• Work with back-end developers and architects to optimize the API and communications between the app and our servers 
• Mentor Junior Engineers and interns and help them in their journey to be great engineers 

To be successful in this role, you’ll also:

• Partner with the UX and design team and bring beautiful giving experiences to life 
• Partner with other software engineers, DevOps engineers, and test automation engineers in a very agile cross-functional team
• Lead and support Android engineers on other cross-functional teams
• Advocate for mobile development best practices and adoption of modern architectures and designs like MVVM and Clean code 

Your experience: 

• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics (STEM)  
• 8+ years of software development experience working on Android applications 
• Experience publishing and supporting mobile applications with a large user base 
• An ability to demonstrate an exceptional understanding of software development fundamentals 
• Experience with unit testing and continuous integration platforms 
• Direct experience with or a strong understanding of server-side software and experience building scalable, distributed systems

• Strong interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills
