IP Paralegal

What you’ll do

  • Work closely with the Chief IP Counsel and other IP attorneys and patent agents to support implementation of Scout Motor’s IP strategies
  • Help develop, implement, and maintain docketing processes, procedures and policies for invention disclosures, patents, patent applications, and trademark applications including daily or periodic clearance of workflow
  • Assist in maintaining docketing system for invention disclosures, patent applications, patents, and trademarks
  • Generate regular status reports for business teams for patent and trademark assets
  • Help prepare patent committee meeting agendas; obtain, assemble and distribute meeting materials
  • Assist in administration of inventor awards program
  • Assist in-house legal counsel in managing non-disclosure agreement drafting and review
  • Provide general administrative support (proofread legal documents, make recommendations)
  • Provide support in IP due diligence for corporate transactions, mergers, and acquisitions
  • Help manage outside counsel and other external resources, including tracking projects, costs and expenses
  • Support the legal team in developing and delivering training programs for employees on legal matters and compliance

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role may be based out of a Scout Motors location in Novi, MI. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company.

  • Bachelor's degree, with paralegal certificate or certification preferred
  • Proven experience of at least six years as a paralegal working with extensive patent and trademark portfolios and docketing systems
  • In-depth knowledge of IP legal concepts, contracts, and legal research methods
  • Proficiency in IP research and docket management tools and databases
  • Excellent drafting and writing skills, with the ability to prepare accurate and well-organized legal documents
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work product
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a legal team
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal stakeholders and external parties

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, non-exempt position eligible to receive an hourly pay rate and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final hourly pay rate offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $43 - $48 per hour

Internal leveling code: S12
