We are applying technology to modernize the delivery of legal services, increasingly automating legal advice, and building a large-scale platform for a network of lawyers to work with small businesses and consumers online to provide affordable legal advice.  Rocket Legal Professional Service (RLPS) is the organization building and managing the team of lawyers and paralegals that will provide direct assistance to millions of Rocket Lawyer members every year.  
 
As an IP Attorney for RLPS, you can revolutionize IP legal representation and increase access to affordable services. Responsibilities

  • Conduct and review trademark searches and provide strategic advice and risk analyses;
  • Advise clients on the registrability and strength of their marks;
  • File a high volume of trademark applications at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
  • Prepare substantive responses to Office actions
  • Train and manage a team of paralegals who will provide support for IP filings
  • Innovate and lead strategy for Rocket Lawyer’s IP practice
  • Collaborate with Rocket Lawyer teams to optimize the product offering and overall customer experience;
  • Persistently analyze the effectiveness of IP programs, using feedback from both customers and staff, and make necessary improvements
  • Provide updates on business trends and performance metrics to leadership
  • Increase access to the law by helping more small businesses register trademarks

Requirements

  • Licensed and in good standing with an impeccable reputation for integrity
  • Minimum of five years of post-graduate legal experience, including 1-3 years of U.S. trademark prosecution experience and some experience in copyright matters
  • Excellent written and spoken communication, with the ability to draft well-written and concise policies and processes
  • Commercially astute, with an ability to understand clients' broader needs in addition to excellent technical legal expertise
  • Knowledge and experience in other practice areas is a plus, especially employment law, landlord and tenant law, civil litigation, and commercial contracts
  • Proven capacity to remotely manage and lead a staff of paralegals
  • A strong work ethic with disciplined execution skills and a proven record of delivering excellent results
  • Understand technology 
  • Self-starter who enjoys problem-solving with minimal direct supervision and exhibits dedication to continuous learning and improvement
  • Personally accountable; leads inspirationally; never misses deadlines
  • Maintains calm under pressure
  • Treats everyone with dignity and respect
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
