The Opportunity
The Intermediate Accountant assumes a pivotal role within our accounting department, taking on increased responsibilities in financial accounting and reporting processes. With a focus on optimizing efficiency and accuracy, this position contributes to the development and implementation of accounting strategies and initiatives to support the company's growth trajectory.
What You'll Be Doing
- Oversee Accounts Payable processes, including verifying accuracy of vendor invoices and employee expenses.
- Oversight of sales tax returns and compliance.
- Prepare biweekly cash flow reports to monitor cash on hand, project cash inflows and outflows and purpose transfers to address cash demands.
- Lead Accounts Receivable activities, including oversight of client onboarding, reviewing of contracts and client invoicing, and managing outstanding balances.
- Coordinate month-end closing procedures, preparing complex journal entries, reconciliations, and accruals for various accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights to stakeholders, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Act as a key liaison during external audits, facilitating requests and providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the accounting function, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Mentor and support junior members of the accounting team, providing guidance and fostering their professional development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on special projects and initiatives, leveraging financial expertise to achieve organizational objectives.
What You'll Need
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field, i.e., accounting or finance preferred; CPA designation is an asset.
Experience:
- 3-5 years experience in professional accounting roles.
Key Competencies and Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting principles and financial reporting requirements, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues and implement solutions proactively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint) with exceptional Excel skills
- Experience with NetSuite an asset
- Experience with an established payroll platform such as ADP, or Ceridian an asset
- US GAAP experience an asset
