HR Generalist

Who We Are

OtherSide Entertainment is an independent game studio with remote staff throughout North America. Our mission is to create deeply immersive games that draw players into richly imagined worlds; games that empower players to choose their own play-style, making their experience unique and personal; games that encourage players to team up with their friends and weave their own shared narrative; the kind of games that are powered by our players’ vision as much as our own. Together, we aim to evolve the “player-authored” tradition of Ultima Underworld, System Shock, Thief, and Deus Ex – all games developed by the company’s founders, Paul Neurath and Warren Spector.

What We Need

Acting as the right-hand to the Chief People Officer, the HR Generalist will partner on HR strategy and execution to elevate and optimize a best-in-class and people-first employee experience for our small (but growing to mid-sized) game dev studio. We’re looking for someone who likes to come up with different approaches than your “usual HR” and isn’t afraid to propose bold new ideas to set us apart.

The Opportunity

Our ideal HR Generalist has a broad range of skills but knows a few things quite deeply, such as recruiting. They are highly engaging, knowledgeable, self-starting, empathic, communicative, and detail-oriented. The goal of this role is to build and foster a warm, delightful, and efficient experience for our teams while ensuring an organized and compliant HR approach. This role will be active in pushing the quality bar of HR at the studio and potentially beyond, and will be proactive in furthering their growth in HR as well.

 Responsibilities
  • Be a beacon of company culture, a go-to person for questions or concerns, and stay close to employee needs, ideas and experiences.
  • Collaborate with producers and leaders to design, run and analyze employee engagement initiatives, including pulse surveys and engagement events.
  • Manage talent acquisition efforts, including recruitment sourcing, screenings, job posts, new hire coordination and onboarding, and employer brand, with our Recruiter’s support.
  • Foster a positive and healthy work remote environment, enhancing employee connection through fun and thoughtful engagement initiatives, beginning with orientation and throughout each year.
  • Effectively - and if possible, entertainingly! - communicate HR policies and procedures aligned to evolving business needs and leading the HR industry where appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws, regulations, and company policies through excellent HR knowledge and organizational processes.
  • Assist with management of employee benefits, annual open enrollment, performance reviews, HRIS data, our org chart and our directory.
  • Support events as needed and occasional business tasks for leadership team members.
Qualifications
  • About 2-4 years of xp in HR would be best, including some game industry recruiting xp. No degree or certifications are required for this role - We’re more interested in what you have done and can do.
  • Passion for games, the games industry as a business, and interest in making our industry a better place for game developers and for players.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an energizing personality, able to build relationships in a remote environment and enable high engagement with a variety of personalities.
  • High level of ethical standards, EQ, and maturity to build trust and astutely manage confidential information, problem-solve, and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Familiarity with popular HR tech would be great, especially proficiency in Trinet or Greenhouse.
  • Energized by a swift pace of work and having a variety of different HR activities daily.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment laws, regulations and best practices.
Additional

Our people-first approach to game development celebrates diversity, and strives to create a safe and inclusive working environment where everyone is treated equally, with dignity, and with respect. We highly encourage candidates from diverse and under-represented backgrounds to apply, even those that may not directly meet every qualification listed for this role.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, remote working role, with competitive compensation and a full suite of benefits available anywhere in the United States. All team members may be asked to occasionally travel for key meetings, as part of their job responsibilities. We're required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the unique facts and circumstances of each case, but a reasonable estimate of the current base salary range for this role is $70,000 - $90,000.

We review and update our salary range bands at OtherSide Entertainment on an annual basis to provide transparency to the expected base salary ranges on our job posts externally as well as internally. Most in-house employee roles also include discretionary variable bonus compensation as well as long-term incentive. Our recruiter will share more details about bonus and LTI for this role in your screening or throughout your interview process as it becomes available.  Final compensation determinations are dependent on the unique facts and circumstances of each case and will take into account a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, qualifications, accomplishments, experience, credentials, and business needs. We look forward to and welcome discussion on this topic at any time during the interview process.
