Who we are looking for

We are seeking a Senior Fund Accountant to join our team.

The Senior Fund Accountant ensures our clients have a great experience and is accountable for delivering fund accounting outcomes for assigned clients.  This is a “hands-on leadership role” and will lead and be responsible for client onboarding, driving client platform adoption, client upsell and renewal, and client operations.  This position plays a pivotal role in the growth of GXE and will work “at the speed of the client”.  To succeed, you must develop great relationships with our clients and the GXE team.  This will initially be an individual leader role; however, there may be an opportunity to build a small team supported by client demand and revenue growth.

You will

Be a leader and Client advocate:

  • Embody a high-performance culture of execution - set clear performance goals and KPIs and measure and monitor progress.
  • Deliver an incredible client experience through a client-led, high-touch, service-oriented approach.
  • Represent the client within GXE and represent GXE to our clients.
  • Deliver thought leadership with clients and in the market.

Deliver the Client / Fund Accounting function:

  • Build and maintain relevant client relationships, communicating regularly and providing relevant updates.
  • Ensure all fund accounting client contractual obligations are met.
  • Periodic reporting to GXE Leadership on Fund Accounting activities and related issues.

Execute Fund Accounting responsibilities for assigned Client contracts:

  • Client onboarding (onboarding, transition, take-over).
  • Reconcile various accounts, researching and correcting any variances.
  • Ensure reconciliation and timely processing of transactions, investments, income and expenses, distributions, accurate NAV and yields, and other fund accounting items.
  • Prepare and lodge financial statements, management and compliance reports, audit schedules, and tax returns.
  • Ensure ongoing tax obligations are met (e.g. TFN, IWT, AIIR, CRS/FATCA, Annual Fund and Investor Tax Statements, Tax returns).
  • Engage with auditors as required, preparing for and supporting audit requests.
  • Identify exceptions and problems affecting fund accounting records and prices, communicate them to clients/management, and assist in their resolution.
  • Client (board) presentations as required.

Execute Trust Accounting responsibilities for nominated trust/escrow accounts:

  • Reconcile trust/escrow accounts, researching and correcting any variances.
  • Ensure reconciliation and timely processing of transactions and other trust accounting items.
  • Prepare accounts and lodge financial statements and compliance reports.
  • Prepare for external audit, engage with externally appointed auditors and support as required.

Policies and Processes:

  • Develop and maintain appropriate fund accounting and tax policies.
  • Develop and maintain processes to scale the fund accounting function efficiently.

Own the Fund Accounting strategy:

  • Be actively involved in defining and refining the fund accounting contract deliverables.
  • Be actively involved in product and platform capability system design.
  • Gather client feedback and insights to improve our products and offers.
  • Leverage platform automation and consider opportunities to automate additional fund accounting processes to deliver a great client experience, scale and efficiency.

Sales engagement:

  • Engagement with the sales and client success teams on potential client opportunities as required.
What success looks like

In the first month, you will…

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders in the business
  • Understand the GXE vision and strategy, value proposition and GTM, platform and software, and client base
  • Become familiar with the business priorities
  • Meet with our key clients and begin developing relationships with decision-makers and influencers, understand their challenges and ensure we’re delivering on all our (fund accounting) contractual commitments.

In the next three months, you will…

  • Be engaged with our clients, developing relationships at the executive level, and have a strong understanding of our client's business and their challenges and how GXE fits within their business
  • Have taken operational ownership of the Fund Accounting function and be executing fund accounting accountabilities for assigned client contracts and trust accounting responsibilities for nominated trust/escrow accounts 
  • Have understood GXE’s Fund Accounting “current state”, identified any gaps, identified future state, performed a gap analysis and built a plan to achieve the future state. (Includes but is not limited to client contracts, client deliverables, policies and operational processes, and internal reporting)
  • Be providing executive reports to GXE Leadership on Fund Accounting activities and related issues.
  • Become an active participant in the quarterly planning process, prioritising Fund Accounting requirements within the greater product development roadmap.

In the following months, you will...

  • Own the Fund Accounting strategy, including defining and refining the contract deliverables, being actively involved in product and platform system design and identifying opportunities for platform automation and product enhancement.
  • Understand our sales pipeline, ensuring the Fund Accounting function is well-positioned to onboard clients and deliver on contractual commitments.
  • Deliver thought leadership to our clients and in the market and identify opportunities to increase our share of wallet within the client.

Requirements

You have
  • Client-centric mindset and a passion for ensuring client success.
  • Strong executive engagement skills: Demonstrated ability to effectively interact, influence, and build relationships with C-level executives and senior leaders within client organisations.  
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Well-developed commercial and business acumen, an ambitious entrepreneurial spirit, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Incredible attention to detail with big-picture thinking.
  • A deep understanding of our industry and the ability to stay current with industry trends.  Domain knowledge within family offices, private equity, property development, and venture capital is beneficial.
  • A bachelor's degree in the required field (e.g., a Bachelor of Accounting or a Bachelor of Business (majoring in Accounting). Master's degree preferred.
  • Hold a current Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) qualification.
  • Ten years of experience in fund accounting, preferably in private equity, real estate or venture capital.
  • Experience in fund-accounting related audit and tax or willingness to learn.
