Learn more about Life at GitLab.

An overview of this role

As a Frontend Engineer in the Manage: Import and Integrate group, you will be joining a team whose mission is to build and improve high priority and scalable features for our customers. In this impactful role you will be working on Importers that enable data migration between GitLab instances and from competitor tools, building integrations with external services, developing foundational REST and GraphQL APIs and working with webhooks.

You will be part of a highly motivated team of very experienced engineers collaborating remotely in an agile environment. Success is measured by your code quality, contributions to the team, the evolution of our importers and integrations and customer satisfaction.

What you’ll do
  • You will develop features and improvements to the GitLab product in a secure, well-tested, and performant way. In particular, you will focus your efforts on improving the UI of our importers to provide great user experience to our expanding customer base. You'll also expand our integrations through new capabilities and enhancements.
  • You’ll advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance.
  • You’ll solve technical problems of high scope and complexity.
  • Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment. Maintain and advocate for these standards through code review.
  • You’ll recognize impediments to our efficiency as a team ("technical debt"), propose and implement solutions.
  • You’ll represent GitLab and its values in public communication around specific projects and community contributions.
  • You’ll ship small features and improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team members. Collaborate with the team on larger projects.
What you’ll bring
  • Professional experience with Vue 2 or 3 and a state management library such as Vuex or VueApollo
  • Professional experience with building frontend web apps with REST and GraphQL
  • Experience with writing automated tests with Jest (bonus for RSpec)
  • A solid understanding of semantic HTML, CSS and core JavaScript concepts
  • A solid understanding of core web and browser concepts (eg. how the browser parses and constructs a web page)
  • Experience with Ruby and HAML is highly desirable (but not mandatory)
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions.
  • Experience with performance and optimization problems and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent these problems.
  • Comfort working in a highly agile, intensely iterative software development process.
  • Demonstrated ability to onboard and integrate with an organization long-term.
  • Positive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Effective communication skills: Regularly achieve consensus with peers, and clear status updates.
  • An inclination towards communication, inclusion, and visibility.
  • Experience owning a project from concept to production, including proposal, discussion, and execution.
  • Self-motivated and self-managing, with excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with other parts of the organization.
  • Share our values, and work in accordance with those values.
  • Ability to thrive in a fully remote organization.
