Job Description
The AWS Operations Team Lead is integral to both the strategic and practical aspects of our AWS Cloud architecture. This role encompasses active involvement in architectural design as a key stakeholder, with the authority to provide critical input and challenge existing designs and processes. A particular focus is placed on the production environment to ensure optimal performance, proactively identifying and mitigating potential incidents to maintain uninterrupted service. The manager leads a team of AWSOps engineers, steering daily BAU tasks while driving forward core initiatives, all in collaboration with third-party IT vendors to uphold a robust AWS infrastructure. This balance of innovation and operational diligence is crucial for the role, demanding a leader with deep AWS Architecture knowledge and a proven track record in effective team management.
Qualifications
- System Stability: Proactively monitor, diagnose, and resolve any issues within the AWS environment to ensure continuous system stability and efficiency.
- Incident Management: Skilfully manage incidents/outages, maintaining composure under pressure to resolve issues swiftly with the necessary resources.
- AWS Administration: Perform daily AWS operations management, encompassing application infrastructure and cloud networks.
- Asset Oversight: Oversee IT assets within the AWS domain, ensuring they are managed effectively (ITAM).
- Performance Optimization: Conduct monitoring, capacity planning, and performance optimization activities to enhance the AWS tenant's performance.
- System Enhancements: Plan and execute projects aimed at system enhancements, upgrades, and maintaining service levels within AWS.
- Technical Guidance: Offer technical expertise to support staff, sharing knowledge and aiding in the development of technical procedures and architectural overviews.
- Incident Management: Be directly involved in incident management, serving as an escalation point for issues impacting service delivery.
- Standards and Best Practices: Collaborate with multiple stakeholders such as Enterprise Architecture and Information Security to establish standards and best practices, driving simplification and continuous improvement/automation initiatives. This includes cost control/optimization reviews and implementation.
- Team Leadership: Manage the AWSOps team's performance and professional development, allocate resources, oversee daily checks, and communicate effectively regarding updates and outages. Mentor his team leading by example, promote continous learning, sharing knowledge, setting clear goals, regular feedback, creating a supporting environment & recognizing acheivements.
Additional Information
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's/associate’s degree in computer engineering or computer science and/or relevant professional Microsoft/AWS accreditations such as AWS Practitioner, SysOps & Solutions Architect (required)
- ITIL Certified
- Project Management certification/experience (Desirable)
Work Experience
- 4+ years working within IT Support in a Senior/Lead/Architect/Management capacity
Functional/Technical Skills and Knowledge Requirements
Be proficient and experienced in the implementation and management of the following areas/technologies:
- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Knowledge of AWS services for managing networks, servers, and middleware is crucial. This includes understanding AWS Tagging, Network Connectivity Management, and IT Asset Management. Tools include: SSM, CloudFormation, Service Catalog, AWS Tagging, EKS, Patch Manager, CloudTrail and AWS Config.
- Performance Monitoring Tools: Experience with tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager, DataDog, SolarWinds, Redgate, CloudWatch are essential.
- Security and Compliance: Understanding of AWS security services like Guard Duty, Security Hub, Inspector and others such as Cortex, Qualys and M365 Defender.
