We’re looking for an experienced engineering manager to lead one of our teams of around 5-8 engineers. You’ll partner closely with a product/project manager, and report to our CTO.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team to deliver high-quality software in small iterations, continuously aiming to reduce cycle time and friction for your team.
  • Have regular one-on-one meetings with engineers, where you will:
  • Set expectations, provide regular feedback, and hold team members accountable
  • Develop a strong two-way feedback loop where you share wider organisational context and build a deep understanding of each engineer and how they work
  • Support engineers and help reach a resolution when issues arise
  • Foster the career growth of your team by seeking challenging, impactful work for all members of your team based on their skills and interests. Give opportunities to work on next-level assignments that demonstrate readiness for promotion when appropriate
  • Strive to build, grow and maintain an ambitious, accountable, happy, and productive team. Lead the team through management and mentorship.
  • Iterate and improve our engineering and SCRUM processes and technical culture and be responsible for ensuring that results don’t come at the expense of long term growth, retention or psychological safety
  • Pro-actively coordinate with other EMs, Team/Tech Leads, PMs and other stakeholders to ensure strong cross team communication and delivery of new features
  • Ensure the technical pipeline for QA and releases is as efficient as possible with the resources we have at the moment
  • You’ll bring forward the feasibility of projects and ideas, and collaborate in lean ways to deliver business outcomes, validating assumptions along the way.
  • Maintain a strong and up-to-date understanding of the architectural challenges and opportunities that your team is facing when building and deploying software. Minimal or no time would be spent coding, but you will be expected to maintain context, ask informative questions, and assist the team in making strategic trade-offs.
  • Own the hiring process for your team from screening the candidates to organising the interview process and final evaluation/decision.
  • Organise and coordinate onboarding with support from Operations for new team members including the assignment of a buddy, people to meet and core responsibilities.

What success looks like

  • The team you lead is productive, consistently shipping value in a lean and iterative way.
  • The overall product<>design<>engineering<>data<>QA is strong and effective, with healthy tradeoffs being made and a balance being struck between innovation and stability and product delivery pace and engineering maintenance.
  • Teammates are very engaged, enabled and productive in their roles, as measured in skip-level 1:1s, team surveys, 360 reviews and retention rates.

Requirements

  • You have experience leading and managing engineering teams.
  • You have a history of holding your team(s) accountable for achieving their goals while operating with high levels of autonomy.
  • You have a technical background and are passionate about delivering maintainable and well-tested software. You have a deep understanding of how software is built and deployed.
  • You use your time effectively and efficiently, and ensure that your team does the same. You manage projects using your organisational skills to ensure that they are delivered optimally.
  • You have experience working with data and making decisions that are centered on customer needs.
  • You are capable of leading globally distributed team members who may have different skillsets to your own.
  • Able to work proficiently using English, as we work exclusively in this language.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on the level of experience
  • 24 days’ holiday + free day on your birthday
  • Public holidays are non working
  • Flexible working hours, with the ability to work from home / hybrid
  • Work with the latest technology paradigms
  • Access to education opportunities (books, courses, seminars, conferences)
  • Monthly Wellbeing Allowance
  • Team buildings/ Social activities
