As an Email Developer, you will learn our martech stack and work with Product Managers, Designers, Marketing,  and other Engineers to understand our email marketing initiatives. Your input will help shape how we develop future email templates. Then you'll set the trajectory for email template processes and contribute to a roadmap for sustainable template development. Your knowledge of current email templates, structured data, and martech systems will be on solid footing. You will jump into any part of the email martech stack and be essential to the progression of our user-focused email products.

This role will also put your UX sensibilities and development skills to the test. You will take ownership of a new, systematized approach to email template creation. Your knowledge of our design systems, patterns, and components will be the envy of all!


What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with design, marketing, and engineering to build, test, and ship email templates
  • Identify UX/UI and Accessibility concerns. Work with your team, along with Product and Design to make improvements
  • Build and deploy modern email templating solutions using modular component principles
  • Work with REST, and other APIs, connecting content for personalization and enrichment
  • Ensure emails are accessible to all audiences by following WCAG best practices
  • Maintain tooling to automate testing for deliverability, viewability, and clipping across email clients
  • Manual testing and debugging of emails on various email clients
  • Integrate with an event-driven marketing communications platform to power notifications and audience segmentation
  • Build consumer-facing onboarding, shopping, and other email experiences
  • Work in tandem with Back End and Full Stack developers, QA, Data, and DevOps engineers, Designers, Product Managers, and Marketing Teams
  • Review pull requests and give constructive, supportive feedback to team members to improve code quality and maintainability, and to further individual skill-development goals


  • What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years experience in front-end web development and email template development with an eye for good design and a passion for delivering exceptional user experiences
  • Extensive knowledge of current HTML, CSS, and Javascript standards, modern browser APIs, build tools, and best practices
  • Strong understanding of CSS within email templates and coding best practices with tables
  • Experience with email marketing platforms such as Iterable, Braze, or Sendgrid
  • Robust experience with one or more major frameworks (e.g., templating engines such as Handlebars or Liquid; CSS Frameworks such as Bootstrap or Material UI; JS frameworks such as Vue, React, Angular)
  • Comfortable working with REST, JSON APIs
  • Experience with SCSS / SASS; using variables, mixins, loops, etc to create well-organized and reusable stylesheets
  • Commitment to building accessible user interfaces and familiarity with current WCAG standards
  • Dedication to testing best practices and experience building robust automated testing suites with libraries such as Rspec, Jest, Cypress, Mocha, Jasmine
  • Strong understanding of version control (git), software development processes, and agile methodologies
  • Familiarity with key web design principles and web standards
  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Preference given to candidates who have familiarity with email regulations such as the CAN-SPAM Act; experience with an email development framework like Foundation, MJML, or Maizzle; experience working  as a UI/UX designer; experience with various A/B testing frameworks; background in publishing, e-commerce, digital merchandising or other consumer-facing industries; experience working with product analytics, marketing, identity and eventing platforms; familiarity with Docker, containers, and other portable application environments; and/or open source contributions and community engagement
