Job Description

As the Director of Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards, you will be a trusted advisor, thought partner, and a subject matter expert to the organization. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement a robust Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards model that is fully integrated with the overall People Services function. You will lead and inspire a team of specialists, fostering their skills, abilities, and career growth. Additionally, you will work in collaboration with the entire People Services team, Operations and other partners to align compensation and talent acquisition strategies with the organization's values and strategic plans. Establish and monitor customer service benchmarks.

  • Overseeing End-to-End Talent Acquisition:
    • Implement standardized procedures and tools to ensure a seamless recruitment process
    • Enhance candidate sourcing, selection, and evaluation for a high-quality hiring experience
  • Introducing Innovative Sourcing Strategies:
    • Bring creativity to talent acquisition with unique sourcing techniques and candidate selection processes
    • Explore new channels, networking opportunities, and partnerships to attract top talent
  • Promoting Diversity and Inclusion:
    • Actively seek candidates from diverse backgrounds to foster an inclusive and dynamic workforce
    • Emphasize diversity in hiring practices for improved creativity and problem-solving
  • Collaborating with HR and Organizational Leaders:
    • Work closely with Manager, Talent Acquisition and leaders across the organization to understand staffing needs
    • Develop strategic talent acquisition plans aligned with workforce planning objectives and growth strategies
  • Strengthening Employer Brand:
    • Promote the organization's employer brand, values, and career opportunities
    • Showcase the unique culture and benefits to attract and retain top candidates
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of existing total rewards programs, policies, guidelines, architecture, and procedures
  • Identify areas for improvement and ensure alignment with organizational goals
  • Provide expert insights on best practices, industry trends, legislative matters, and market competitiveness
  • Collaborate with HR leaders and stakeholders to ensure total rewards strategies support the organization's overall talent recruitment and retention goals
  • Develop, plan, and execute new total rewards programs or updates to existing ones
  • Ensure these programs are well-designed, cost-effective, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Stay updated on current and emerging total rewards trends, and proactively address challenges to maintain a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining top talent
  • Lead the design, implementation, and management of comprehensive employee compensation and benefit programs (including oversight of job descriptions, pay equity plans and related budget forecasts), considering both union and non-union staff
  • Ensure these programs are competitive in the job market and aligned with the organization's financial objectives
  • Maintain data integrity in compensation and benefits processes and systems
  • Regularly audit and review data to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies, procedures, and all applicable local, provincial, and federal laws, as well as existing collective agreements
  • Partner with plan administrators to conduct thorough annual analysis of organizational benefits and compensation programs, policies, and structures
  • Benchmark these programs against industry standards to ensure they remain competitive and support the organizations strategic direction
  • Utilize market analysis and benchmarking data to develop recommendations to Senior Leadership for updates to compensation architecture, salary structures, and benefits offerings
  • Collaborate with the People Services team to implement necessary changes and communicate them effectively to employees
  • Stay current with legislative changes and industry best practices related to total rewards and compensation
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to ensure the organization remains compliant with relevant laws and collective agreements
  • Provide effective oversight and management of HRIS and related systems
  • Ensure these systems are utilized optimally for accurate data management, reporting, and compliance with data protection laws
  • Identify opportunities to leverage HR technology for process improvements and enhanced employee experience
  • Collaborate with the HR team and IT department to implement relevant HR technology solutions that support organizational efficiency and productivity
  • Set clear and ambitious visions for operational and process excellence in the Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards functions
  • Develop strategic plans and objectives to achieve continuous improvement in HR processes, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance 
  • Establishes directions, objectives and resource requirements needed to deliver superior quality customer service
  • Lead, motivate, and inspire a team of total rewards and talent acquisition specialists
  • Foster an environment of continuous learning, growth, and collaboration to enhance the team's expertise and performance
  • Provide ongoing education, mentoring, and training to HR staff on total rewards processes, best practices, and industry trends
  • Fully engages and involves people in projects/initiatives that further their growth and development
  • Anticipates and facilitates the identification of internal and external challenges  
  • Develops and implements HR plans, programs and tools with senior leaders and operational teams to build and enhance organizational capability
  • Determines staffing and resource requirements to respond to short-term and long-term strategic priorities
  • Defines and communicates quality standards and ensures that all aspects of HR are aligned to achieve high quality and consistency targets
  • Analyses and measures internal processes to ensure delivery against targets
  • Leads the development of actionable, proactive metrics that drive forecasting capabilities and strategic insights



Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or a related discipline
  • 10 years’ experience as an accomplished talent acquisition and total rewards (compensation & benefits) professional acquired in national, business/professional services or corporate environments; experience in a public sector organization is an asset
  • Experience with a large, multi-service line/location organization within a unionized environment
  • Progressive HR leadership responsibility with experience in all facets of HR
  • Strong customer focus with demonstrated success in delivering innovative solutions to drive stakeholder value
  • Action orientation, ability to make quick, quality decisions and deliver superior results
  • Broad understanding of HR fundamentals across all functional areas of the discipline
  • Legislative knowledge such as Pay Equity, Employment Standards, Ontario Pension Benefits Act
  • Experience within a unionized environment
  • Superior communication, influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Time management and organizational skills to manage tight deadlines and large workload volumes
  • Ability to simplify and streamline processes effectively
  • Experience with MS Project and Excel applications and strong computer skills
  • Experience using complex client-server applications (i.e. HRIS systems)
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and/or Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) preferred
  • Strong strategic/business acumen and judgment with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to interact effectively across a broad range of audiences; proven ability to explain, influence, listen, and consult
  • Highly responsive and client service focused; has the capacity and passion to meet and/or exceed the needs and expectations of internal and external clients in a timely manner
  • Must possess a deep understanding, developed through experience, of the recruitment, benefits, and compensation landscape; this should include a thorough knowledge of employment and compensation and benefit laws and regulations
  • Strong strategic capabilities as well a willingness to be hands-on and comfortable with tactical execution
  • Demonstrated track record of success in applying marketplace insights within and across the organization
  • Results-orientated individual with consistent follow-up and attention to detail, data analysis and application of statistical methods
  • An understanding of and appreciation for the cultural differences experienced across a diverse organization
  • A track record of process and technology renewal specific to HRIS tools
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practice, change and project management methodologies
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement (LEAN, Six Sigma)
  • Strong knowledge of shared services, streamlined transactional services
