Department Overview
The Information Technology (IT) Department is a security first organization. We deliver data and technology services and, through collaboration with partners, transform the role of Information Technology to advance the UC mission. We maintain an innovative, inclusive, and supportive work environment. This unit provides systemwide services focused on awareness, training and communications about various security topics, including identity theft, data security breaches, data leakage and cyber security with the goal of enabling ongoing, secure, and reliable operations across the enterprise.
Position Summary
Responsible for developing, managing, and supporting security projects involving training, communications and events (virtual and in-person) with defined beginnings and ends. Develops communications and outreach strategies and solutions, produces websites, blogs, digital media, presentations, and print media-from content creation, design, production to programming. Plans, coordinates, and monitors scope, requirements, schedules, budgets, resources, tasks, risks, staff, and deliverables in support of the initiatives from University of California's COO and CIO. Management of direct employee and contractors, as well as collaboration with peer roles across the UC system.
Key Responsibilities
20% Develops and manages security and digital risk communications products, programs, projects and events from initiation through delivery; Initiates, designs, and/or modifies processes and procedures. Works with clients, administration, and/or other professionals to create, develop, and implement long and short-term strategic communications plans and projects.
20% Produces and manages effective content for digital communications strategies, including but not limited to websites, blogs, events, reports, newsletters, and presentations; ensures that communications effectively meet the organization's needs and that the desired message is delivered to appropriate target. Provides expert guidance to management, editors, designers, and other professionals on all aspects of digital communications, including strategic planning, marketing, and problem-solving.
20% Makes recommendations to senior management regarding issues of privacy, security and compliance for department or entire campus, medical center or Office of the President.
20% Directly manages communication and awareness methods to drive and integrate campus-wide, medical center or Office of the President IT privacy and security strategies to reach all constituents, faculty, staff, students and affiliates.
20% Selects, trains, manages, motivates, and evaluates professional staff responsible for producing a variety of digital communication pieces; may also manage support staff. Frequently interacts with project team members to monitor results, progress, and provide direction.

Advanced knowledge of all aspects of digital communications, including and long and short-range strategic planning, design concepts, various media, and applications.
Expert skills to create and oversee the creation of effective digital content that advances the organization's message to various constituencies.
Demonstrated communication skills with project teams, stakeholders, and external contacts including both technical and non-technical audiences.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in organization.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical topics to large groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication.
Advanced strategic planning, marketing, project management, analytical, critical thinking and problem recognition, and resolution skills.
Works in a collaborative manner to achieve results, excellent interpersonal communication and political acumen skills.
Expert knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of written communications and editorial style.
Preferred Qualifications
Broad management expertise in determining and recommending actions, for campus, medical center or Office of the President departments, to follow in IT security and privacy matters.
Demonstrated ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.
Broad knowledge of subject area sufficient for strategic planning, technology assessment and direction.
Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact within the department.
Advanced skills to ensure production of high quality work within budget and time constraints.
Demonstrated skills to develop process and system implementation plans.
Education
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree preferred.

Full Salary Range:
$129,600 - $254,400
The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
