Reports to: Dylan Baker, Research Engineer
The Distributed AI Research Institute (DAIR) aims to work on interdisciplinary AI research with ethics and foresight baked in from the start. Our center is distributed to ensure that researchers from many different backgrounds can participate while embedded in their communities. We aim to communicate our work in forms that are accessible and useful to members of impacted communities, rather than purely based on research papers accessible only to a select few.You can learn more about DAIR at https://dair-institute.org.
In this internship, you will contribute to DAIR’s goal of communicating our research to the public through creative means. Over the course of this internship, you will work with Dylan and other members of the DAIR team to construct a creative piece designed to reach an impacted community who might benefit from, and might not otherwise have access to, DAIR’s work.
At least one output of this project should be a zine (examples: coveillance, A People’s Guide to Tech, zines about labor organizing), with both a print and digital form. However, this does not have to be limiting. Depending on your interests and the topic we select, this project can include additional outputs, such as: creating posters, organizing a workshop, building an interactive web page, tabling at a zine fest, or creating some other artistic intervention heretofore unseen. The underlying goal is simply to communicate DAIR’s work to relevant communities, and this project will include some amount of creative flexibility.
You will be expected to attend weekly team meetings and regular check-ins with your host.
Candidates should have at least one of the following:
The DAIR Institute is fully remote and geographically distributed, but we require this position to be at a location with a timezone that has at least 3 hours of overlap with the Pacific and Eastern time zones in order to work closely with your host.
To apply, please submit your CV/resume and a portfolio of your work by March 6, 2024.
