Summary

The Centre for Information Resilience is recruiting two Country Leads with one based in Ghana and one in Nigeria. This is to work on an exciting project combating disinformation and influence operations in the region. 

About CIR

CIR is an independent, non-profit social enterprise dedicated to countering disinformation, exposing human rights abuses, and combating online behaviour harmful to women and minorities. We achieve these goals through research, digital investigations, strategic communications, building the capacity of local partners, and supporting media to amplify the impact of our work.

Whilst CIR working language is English our staff are based across Europe, the UK and other countries reflecting the diversity of our workforce and our commitment to international collaboration.

The role

The project will bring together a team working on countering disinformation and influence operations by malign actors. The project’s goal is to raise awareness on disinformation amongst the general population and build resilience of the information environment of Nigeria and Ghana. 

The Country Lead will be responsible for coordinating a team of experts. This will include: Regular meetings to discuss upcoming topics and areas of research to expose disinformation campaigns or build resilience towards it, analysing the information environment to optimise approach to project goals. The country lead will also work with CIR’s staff to communicate the progress of the team’s work, provide support and development opportunities to experts and discuss any arising challenges. 

Key Tasks:  

  • Lead the country expert team and support its growth, providing guidance to ensure high-quality execution.
  • Oversee regular meetings to check in about research progress and support the team with any difficulties.
  • Monitor the team’s research progress, and provide technical and logistical assistance where needed.
  • Organise the regular output of research by the team on topics related to countering disinformation and influence operations.
  • Regularly communicate about events that support the team’s learning and technical capabilities.
  • Facilitate communication with the team about developments in areas of research, and the disinformation space in country and the region more broadly. 
  • Use data and insights to identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of outputs.
  • Support events hosted by CIR to build the team’s technical capabilities.

Requirements

  • High degree of awareness of the information environment in Nigeria or Ghana with respect to countering disinformation and influence operations.
  • Understanding of the region’s geo-politics.
  • Experience managing small to medium size teams. 
  • Previous experience in coordinating and monitoring research outputs through various mediums.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in English, good written and oral communication in Nigeria or Ghana native languages.
  • Based in Nigeria or Ghana or regular travel to Nigeria or Ghana .

Desirable Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree or experience in Communications, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience with Open-Source Investigations.
  • Experience working with media organisations.

 

 Working Arrangements:

This is a part-time role which can be worked flexibly. The tasking is expected to be entirely remotely based, although some in-person events with international travel are planned which the role holder would be expected to attend.
