Shift5 is seeking a Cost Accounting Manager to join our growing finance team. In this role, your primary responsibility will be ensuring all inventory controls and procedures are followed in accordance with GAAP. This position reports to the Controller and will provide cost accounting support to the inventory production sites by strengthening inventory control measures, performing inventory cost reviews, and providing inventory reporting and analysis to business leaders. The position is also the accounting liaison with the Inventory/Hardware team in support of accurate and timely inventory general ledger transactions. You will also review and approve monthly financial results as they relate to cost of sales and manufacturing, coordinate annual review of product costs as well as annual physical inventory. This position provides an opportunity for an ambitious and fast learning accounting team member to join a company where the accounting team acts as a critical partner in support of a growing organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Active role in month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing procedures, including reviewing Journal Entries, general ledger analysis, variance explanations, and other accounting related processes
  • Monitor inventory accuracy to enable regular operational/finance reviews
  • Perform inventory reconciliations and flux analysis related to all inventory, including raw material, WIP, finished goods 
  • Review and approve monthly financial results for cost of goods and manufacturing operations and associated balance sheet and P&L accounts 
  • Support the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure accurate tracking of inventory and appropriate inventory levels
  • Provide support of cycle count programs and physical inventory counts requirement
  • Scrutinize manufactured product costs for any inconsistencies, examining manufacturing variances and identifying potential issues in routings or bills of materials
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the work order system, as needed
  • Conduct cost estimations for new products or potential modifications to existing products as necessary
  • Safeguard the accuracy of costs and item attributes influencing costing or standard accounting processes
  • Create new management dashboards for inventory analysis and variance reports 
  • Support the Hardware team with NetSuite and system requirements

Other Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance 
  • 5+ years of experience in Cost Accounting, with relevant experience of inventory and COGS analysis or audit 
  • Knowledge of receiving, inventory flow, operations process and manufacturing principles
  • Exhibit mastery in NetSuite Cost Accounting & Manufacturing preferred
  • Excellent Excel skills 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in simplifying complex subjects for non-technical audiences through written and verbal communication
  • Adaptability to grasp and apply new concepts accurately within a dynamic and evolving environment
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
