We are looking for qualified and experienced UK Primary School Teachers who have a genuine passion for Science education!
We’re looking for an experienced primary teacher to join our team of passionate teachers working to create Twinkl’s online science content for teachers across the UK. Our ideal candidate would be a primary science expert with in-depth knowledge of the primary science curriculum. The majority of your time will be spent working with other Content Writers and Editors, engaging with product priorities to facilitate the highest possible quality of teacher content for our customers.
Your weekly activities could include:
- Creating new resources to support teaching and learning of science;
- Responding to editorial feedback and working alongside colleagues to elevate a resource to an excellent standard;
- Creating innovative materials to accompany popular themes and events;
- Sharing science knowledge with the team about how to write a variety of resources which engage learners and appeal to teachers;
- Curating existing content on site to ensure that it is up to date and meets customers' needs;
- Using their own knowledge of science to support the team with their resource content;
- Producing resources which respond to customer needs and educational developments;
- Meeting with other members of the team to discuss and develop new ideas;
- Demonstrating excellent communication skills with the writers, designers and illustrators that you collaborate with.
- Writing, creating or delivering science CPD.
Our ideal candidate will be passionate about giving back to the education community and keen to share their Science expertise with others in their team. This position can take place at Sheffield HQ or it can be a UK work-from-home, flexible position.
Remote working and hours:
- Although we allow flexible working patterns to fit in around family or other commitments, team members working 30 hours per week are expected to complete most of their work during office hours, Monday to Friday. To be considered for this role, you would need to be available around our core hours (10am-2pm) minimum 4 days per week. You will need to have good daytime availability for training, meetings, collaboration and ongoing CPD, particularly in your training period/first month.
- Remaining hours outside of the core working times can be agreed upon between you and your line manager to fit around your current commitments and business needs.
- Essential for remote working - You will need access to a fast and reliable internet connection of at least 6mb down and 1mb upload. We recommend you use speedtest.net to check.
In this role, you will learn:
- how to ideate and create diverse, inclusive, engaging and varied science resources for children and teachers;
- how to work in ‘agile’ teams, allowing you to solve problems and change tasks quickly to meet deadlines;
- how to collaborate with educational professionals based across the UK through our company focus groups and customer feedback requests;
- how to apply your teaching experience to create new products, from ideation stage to publication;
- how to use project tracking software as well as other in-house systems.
To succeed in the role, you will:
- have completed primary qualified teacher status: PGCE, B.Ed or equivalent;
- have 2 years of full classroom teaching experience after QTS is complete;
- be a confident practitioner in the delivery of the key stage one and two science curriculum;
- have a strong understanding of the need for science resources to be diverse and inclusive;
- be a fantastic communicator who thrives when working in a close-knit team;
- have detailed and up-to-date knowledge of the National Curriculum in England;
- be prepared to confidently work between different IT platforms, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and G Suite;
- understand the teaching community in England, knowing their unique pressures and current educational trends;
- have a drive for continuous professional development.
Requirements
Essential requirements:
- Has taught science across key stage one and two as a fully qualified teacher with full class responsbility.
- Has detailed knowledge of the content of the science 2014 National Curriculum.
- As an writer, is able to create content with a great level of factual and grammatical accuracy.
- Is passionate about the teaching of science in primary schools and has an excellent understanding of the importance of making the curriculum diverse and progressive.
- Is organised, able to work to deadlines, and manages time effectively.
Desireable requirements:
- Has led science as a subject leader or co-ordinator.
- Has experience creating or delivering science CPD content.
- Has experience of using video editing software.

- Becky Duckmanton (Product Team Leader) who will be your Line Manager.
- Our team of qualified teachers who currently write, edit and produce content for the Science team.
- Our amazing in-house design and illustration teams, collaborating daily to produce the beautiful, polished resources that Twinkl are known for.
