Pacific Environment is campaigning to end fossil fuel use, including to move ships, planes, and ports off fossil fuels entirely. Our strategies include creating strong regulatory frameworks to achieve 100% zero-emission ocean shipping on a timeline commensurate with the climate emergency, pressuring corporate customers to demand zero-emission ships, and influencing ports in the United States and internationally across the Pacific Rim to end fossil fuel build out and ready themselves for 100% zero-emission ocean shipping instead.
Position
The Climate Campaign Director, Ports will oversee Pacific Environment’s ports-related campaigning, includingleading our cross-functional Ports for People campaign and otherwise working to transform ports to 100% zero-emission shipping. They will develop and lead strategies focusing on major ports, including within North America and Asia, to accelerate the implementation of zero-emission shipping corridors, to stop ports’ fossil fuel build-out and instead transition to zero-emission alternatives, and to ensure port communities and workers are centered in discussions on decarbonization. Importantly, they will manage PE’s team of place-based and strategy-specific campaigners and technical experts. Together, this team builds and cultivate relationships with community partners, labor partners, environmental justice partners, industry stakeholders and more to achieve campaign goals.
The ideal candidate is a values-based leader and campaign strategist with experience managing international, local-to-global campaigns and a large and geographically dispersed team. They have a record of accomplishment of successful grassroots organizing and local, state, multi-state, and/or international advocacy, especially on environmental, justice, energy, infrastructure, and/or transportation issues.
The Climate Campaign Director for Ports will report to Pacific Environment’s Senior Climate Campaign Director. They will manage a campaign team working to end fossil fuel pollution from ships, accelerate production of 100% green maritime fuels and propulsion solutions, and advance environmental justice in frontline and fence-line communities.
Location and Travel
This position is remote and requires working West Coast time zone hours, with a preference for physical presences in greater Los Angeles are or greater San Francisco Bay area. The position will involve domestic, and possibly international, travel. Pacific Environment is sensitive to COVID-19 and other potential obstacles to safe travel.
Physical Requirements
The Climate Campaign Director, Ports work involves remaining in a stationary position and looking at a computer for long stretches of time, communicating with co-workers electronically, and frequent travel (including overnight travel), in-person meetings, or events. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
