BulletFarm Expert Character Artist

BulletFarm is looking for an Expert Character Artist to join the team as we set out to build a new co-op FPS. We are a small, highly collaborative team currently prototyping an entirely new type of shooter to gamers worldwide.

The Job

Create realistic player and non-player character art as well as completely bespoke enemy creatures. You will:

  • Drive the creation of high-quality character and creature models.
  • Design solutions to allow player characters to wear various purposefully designed outfits (pants, shirts, hats, others) or ornamentations and gear (backpacks, bandoliers, etc., all) attached over the top of those outfits.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director, Art Director, and Concept Artists to develop 2D concept art into detailed 3D character designs.
  • Using 3D modeling, texturing, and sculpting software such as Maya, Zbrush, and Substance Painter, and implement those models into an Unreal Engine 5x game.
  • Develop techniques to use scanning/photogrammetry for modeling.
  • Work closely with Tech Art and Animation to ensure characters and creatures are modeled in a way that ensures proper deformation when rigged and allows for realistic movement and expression during gameplay.
  • Review and optimize character assets to ensure they meet performance and memory constraints while maintaining visual quality. This will require very close collaboration with Tech Art and Engineering to implement efficient workflows and techniques for character asset creation.
  • Work closely with Production to develop an outsourcing pipeline based that can deliver on the quality standards of the game.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years or more of experience as a character artist; 2 or more in a senior role.
  • Experience working with external partners (outsourcing, co-development).
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates expertise in modeling, including hard surface and organic assets for characters in game. Shows your human player characters, human enemy player characters, and monsters or creatures.
  • Demonstrated experience working with realistic art styles on working on Unreal Engine game.
  • Familiarity with source control and asset tracking tools such as Perforce and Jira.
  • Strong traditional art foundations: e.g. figure drawing, concept art, and illustration.

Please come work with us if any of this sounds exciting to you:

  • Being a part of the start-up team in a new game studio.
  • Excited by the ability to define the pipeline and hand-pick the tools that make you the most efficient.
  • Want to work from (almost) anywhere.
