Associate Counsel, Product & Commercial

About the Role

Stitch Fix is looking for a clever, solutions-oriented lawyer to join our impactful and collaborative in-house legal team as Associate Counsel. In this role, you will focus on Stitch Fix’s commercial and product matters, including fashion vendor agreements, technology transactions, marketing campaigns, and product designs. You will advise nearly every team at Stitch Fix, including Merchandising, Marketing, Operations, Engineering, Product, Data Science, Client Experience, Information Security, and IT. You will work with Stitch Fix’s merchandising team to grow Stitch Fix’s portfolio of exclusive brands and hundreds of name brands such as Madewell, TOMS, Free People and Vuori. You will shepherd Stitch Fix through commercial transactions and support Stitch Fix’s marketing and creative initiatives. You will help our online product and technology teams design attractive and effective products that comply with consumer protection laws and industry standards. Along the way, you will develop the varied skills of a pragmatic in-house generalist at a publicly-listed, data-driven eCommerce fashion retailer.

This is a full-time position that can be done remotely from most US states, or as a hybrid role with 2-3 days a week in Stitch Fix’s San Francisco headquarters. Stitch Fix’s legal team currently has lawyers in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mountain West, Midwest, and New England.

Our legal team at Stitch Fix is a small, committed group of problem solvers, trusted across the company to make strategic decisions that advance company objectives. This is the right role for you if you are an intellectually curious quick-thinker, capable of assessing nuanced risks in the context of business objectives and providing easily-understood, actionable advice.

You're excited about this opportunity because you will…
  • Review and negotiate commercial contracts for all business functions, including agreements with Stitch Fix’s fashion vendors.
  • Provide legal advice to support Stitch Fix business partners across the company, including our merchandising, marketing, operations, engineering, product, data science, client experience, information security and IT teams.
  • Review Stitch Fix creative assets and influencer marketing initiatives for intellectual property issues and legal compliance.
  • Contribute to Stitch Fix’s privacy program by negotiating data processing agreements and advising business teams on compliance with data privacy laws and regulations, including consumer data collection, use, and disclosures.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Stitch Fix in-house legal team, our outside counsel, and our internal clients to handle the varied legal questions that arise when you're part of a small in-house legal team helping operate a data-driven, consumer-facing, publicly-listed fashion retailer.
We’re excited about you because…
  • You have a J.D. from an accredited law school, are a member of a US state bar in good standing, and have 4+ years experience as a product, privacy, tech transactions, or commercial lawyer in a law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department.
  • You have experience working in or with eCommerce, fashion, retail, digital marketing, or data science-driven, consumer-facing companies.
  • You have high integrity and are intellectually curious.
  • You consistently demonstrate timely and responsive client service.
  • You take a practical approach to lawyering, always keeping the company’s business objectives and strategic focus top-of-mind.
  • You demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to prioritize among multiple projects while driving them to timely completion.
Why you'll love working at Stitch Fix...
