Position Title & Overview:
The Associate Counsel will join Mediavine’s Legal department of attorneys, a paralegal, legal operations and compliance professionals. As a part of this small but growing team, you will help support the legal needs of the company as a valuable contributor to day to day contracting as well as overall business strategy. You will focus primarily on matters related to privacy but will also be called upon in support of our growing volume of commercial contracts. The successful candidate will bring a background of both privacy and contracts experience demonstrating a pragmatic approach to legal practice that balances business needs and risk mitigation.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the the General Counsel, Director of Privacy & Compliance and business stakeholders on a variety of business legal matters related to privacy
- Support the administration of Mediavine’s privacy program, including through policy and procedure drafting, training, monitoring, and reporting
- Build and maintain strong partnerships across all of Mediavine’s business units including but not limited to; product, engineering and revenue to ensure that all products, offerings, and practices comply with legal requirements
- Communicate and negotiate with outside parties (agencies, regulators, external counsel, public authorities, etc.), creating positive relationships, agreements and mutual trust
- Draft, review, and improve various agreements, policies, and procedures, ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulations, self-regulatory principles, and internal practices
- Conduct all assignments with integrity and a high degree of responsibility
- Maintain current knowledge on alterations in legislation at the Federal, State and Local levels; understanding that success in this role requires remaining up to date as compliance requirement change
- Provide drafting and negotiation assistance for various commercial transactions, as related to commercial terms and regulatory and privacy compliance, including partner and vendor agreements
- Analyze, assess, and advise on applicable data protection laws, regulations, best practices as well as legal and regulatory risks to the business
- Help ensure that data collection, use, and sharing practices align with applicable laws, regulations, self-regulatory principles, and standard methodologies
- Develop customer-facing materials in support of our compliance program
- Perform other related duties as needed
Requirements
- JD with bar admission in good standing
- 5+ years’ experience as a practicing attorney
- 3+ years advising in the area of privacy
- 1+ years of experience in Ad Tech
- Understanding of commercial terms for the Ad Tech Industry, preferred
- Experience providing legal advice and business solutions relating to data protection and privacy laws and regulations
- Strong negotiating skills and active experience in hands-on contract negotiation
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of legal research
- Ability to identify and analyze complex and novel legal issues and problems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment
- Experience with Google Workspace and Slack
- Experience working in a highly collaborative environment with the ability to influence and build strong relationships
- Strong analytical skills and are detail oriented
- Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once and perform in a fast-paced work environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $175,000. Mediavine takes a number of factors into account when determining individual starting pay, including skill/experience match to job requirement, level they are hired into and peer compensation.
Base salary is just one component of Mediavine’s total rewards package. All employees are also eligible for the corporate bonus program or a sales incentive (target included in OTE).
