Accounting Manager

Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled Accounting Manager to oversee all aspects of accounting practices and processes – supporting the accounting close and all monthly accounting activity. You will support business needs and the proper implementation of company strategy and objectives. You will be a key driver regarding the optimization of all accounting activity including close, AP/AR, and payroll.  The Accounting Manager will also be responsible for the weekly payroll process – combining information from various systems and uploading information for processing with the third-party payroll provider.  The Accounting Manager will work under the guidance of the Controller.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Controller in directing the accounting operations functions to ensure timeliness, integrity and accuracy of financial statements and management reports.
  • Review and analyze general ledger balances, accounting entries, prepare and review account reconciliations, investigate P&L variances and coordinate variance explanations of actual results to budget and forecast.
  • Manage the monthly/quarterly financial close process ensuring all transactions are properly recorded.
  • Supervise and develop staff by providing guidance and training and ensuring work is properly allocated with resulting high performance and accountability.
  • Monitor daily performance of the accounting department.  Oversee daily transactions, including accounts payable, general ledger and bank reconciliations.
  • Implement productivity, quality and customer service standards, manage all aspects of problem resolution related to general ledger data.
  • Oversee the general ledger and take ownership for the entire month end, quarter end, and year end close procedures in compliance with US GAAP. This includes, but is not limited to, preparing and reviewing journal entries, creating and maintaining accounting schedules, performing and reviewing account reconciliations.
  • Maintain inventory accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely recording of inventory transactions, including valuation, cost allocations, and reconciliation. 
  • Oversee the inventory control process, including conducting regular physical counts, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and implementing measures to improve inventory accuracy. 
  • Manage the month-end and year-end inventory closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of inventory-related financial statements and reports.
  • Enforce effective accounting policies and processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls, identify and document gaps in current processes, recommend solutions, and carry out best practices.
  • Develop processes/systems that continually accomplish and improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow.
  • Maintain overall accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and accounting records.
  • Assist auditors to perform year-end and interim financial audits/reviews.
  • Performing other related duties as necessary or assigned, including ad-hoc analysis and projects.
  • Payroll Administration:
    • Coordinate completion of all weekly payroll data as needed.  Compile the necessary payroll information from various input sources to prepare overall payroll submission to the outsourced provider.
    • In conjunction with an outsourced provider, assures accurate and timely processing of employee payroll; performs payroll changes such as salary adjustments, special payments, tax allocations, wage garnishments and payroll deductions.
    • Respond to payroll inquiries and resolve a variety of complex problems in a confidential manner, conduct research, gather, and compile information for reports and analyze results.
    • Regularly review current processes and procedures and make recommendations for improvements to current processes or systems to enhance performance and create efficiencies.
    • Ensures that time-keeping equipment and systems are properly maintained and in good order.
    • Maintain knowledge of rules and laws which govern payroll administration practices. 
    • Monitor tax setups, compliance filing and reporting requirements.
    • Complete employment verifications in a timely manner.
    • Assist with annual audits as appropriate.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • US Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus
  • 5-10 years of experience in Accounting
  • Experience with NetSuite
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, lead, and motivate staff
  • Direct experience performing detailed and data intensive reconciliations
  • Knowledge of payroll and payroll procedures
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and concepts (U.S. GAAP)
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Prioritization and time management
