Academic Expert (Reviewer)

In the context of the EU Product Safety Awards taking place in December 2023, we are looking for an Academic Expert (reviewer) capable of examining the different candidacies by ensuring that the applications presented meet the Award Criteria. This role is a short term, project dedicated role. We are looking for someone who can contribute effectively on a flexible, part-time basis. These roles are crucial in our commitment to CSR, even on a part-time.

Your main duties will be to:

• Review and assess research proposals for their methodological soundness, ensuring that the research design, methodology, data collection, and analysis techniques are appropriate and aligned with the research objectives.
• Scrutinize applications to identify any gaps, inconsistencies, or methodological weaknesses that may undermine the integrity of the research.
• Evaluate the ethical considerations of proposed research, ensuring that projects involving human subjects, animals, or sensitive data adhere to ethical standards and guidelines.
• Assess applications from a variety of academic disciplines, applying your expertise to evaluate methodological rigor across diverse research areas.
• Collaborate with other experts and team members to contribute to comprehensive reviews of research proposals, combining your methodological expertise with domain-specific insights.
• Prepare clear and constructive feedback reports that outline strengths, weaknesses, and actionable recommendations for each research application reviewed.
• Communicate effectively with researchers, providing them with insights into the methodological strengths and areas for improvement in their proposals.
• Stay updated on emerging research methodologies, techniques, and best practices across disciplines to enhance the quality of evaluations.

If you have:

• A Masters or Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant academic discipline, with a strong methodological background, preferably in environmental and consumer safety.
• Extensive research experience and a track record of conducting rigorous research with robust methodologies.
• A record of scholarly publications in reputable journals, demonstrating expertise in research methodology.
• Prior experience in reviewing research proposals, manuscripts, or grant applications is preferred.
• Familiarity with ethical considerations in research involving human subjects, animals, and sensitive data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to provide constructive feedback to researchers.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, remote team environment.
• Fluent in English.
• Fully remote work proficiency.
